It is the greatest mainly because it raised the bar in online shooters. All CoD games since then wouldn't be what they are without it. It took FPS mainstream, imo. It was my first and many of my friends first fps game. I put more hours in it than all the others since COMBINED. Black ops being second was pretty much built off of CoD4.

Why? Because it's the most balanced multiplayer game I've ever played. There's no 10 feet knife lunges, riot shields, terrible guns, stupidly placed spawns, or anything of that matter. I still play it. I sold all the other CoD's I didn't enjoy, like W@W and BO.

CoD 4 was the epitome of the series. I wasn't into the multiplayer though, kill streaks areas one of the worst ideas in MP.

although cod4 probably has the cleanest multiplayer game play and the campaign west the best in my opinion. i still have to say mw2 was my favorite. the multiplayer was the best. mw3 made me lose interest in it way too fast, it is horrible!

W@W was best in realism and gore.
Cod 4 was best in maps
Black Ops was best for competition IMO.

COD is the best game in the series. but online must have got hacked i cant even play it... but i still play single player,
they should do a remake of COD4 for the PS4

Cod 2 is still my favourite. Fucking love it. Has been installed on countless machines over the years. The sp is good (not great actually think the sp in the first pulls at the emotions more) bit the multiplayer is epic and some of the servers with the custom maps are awesome. The united noobs ctf Euro server was always awesome and there used to be some really cool other ones years back but think they all stopped. (or could just be running on a different patch version to me)

For me CoD4 was the first multiplayer console game I ever played online, and I fell in love with it. Everything about CoD4 was amazing to me, it was probably my favorite game for a year. I would play other games, and enjoy them, but no matter what I always would come back to CoD4.

COD4 is my favorite because it changed the franchise, good campaign and MP.

Black Ops is the closest thing to COD4.

Some of my only issues with Black ops were snipers, now I don't quickscope.....but I liked how it was in COD4.

The only with maps I have is that they were not designed with snipers in anyway, some of them you can snipe for a bit...but none of them give you a good vantage point like some other maps did in Cod4

There was a building on CoD 4's Ambush that if you knew how to get into the room it would give you an awesome vantage point over the level. I loved sitting there with my M40A1 taking out the other team

Same here Cod 4 was my first FPS that i really got into and also got into the online for it, what i loved about it was that it took skill to play,its nothing like mw 3 now where it takes no skill really, all you need to do is get lucky with your kill streaks and that is it,or camp in a corner somewhere. now im not saying that even the pro players and the big youtubers have no skill since they do,it just is now a game basically of luck. with Cod 4 if you didnt know the game at all you either had to check youtube or just teach yourself how to play it which i did,i basically went from going probably 18 deaths and 2 kills in a game,to pretty much owning anyone now.

just my two cents, im new here by the way so nice to meet everyone

You're all naming all these guns but none of you (unless I missed it) have mentioned the greatest gun of all.

M16 red dot aka Easy mode.

Btw, Yes, CoD4 is easily the best. Easily. If it wasn't so overloaded with cheats and hacks now, I might even still play it.

I traded it in when MW2 was released, however, I am so tempted to repurchase it, but I remember flying men, full map jumpers, invincibility, etc...

Last time I played MW2 same thing was happening with that game too

Not sure, haven't bothered. Last time I played just to mess around was around the time MW3 released. Half the screen was taken up by text advertising youtube links and everyone was running around in the sky.

Even with all that, I STILL had more fun than I had with the newer ones.

COD4 definatly was the best one in terms of maps, Crossfire i think it was? was the best sniper map ever, and Bog you really felt in a war. The weirdest thing is i hate mw3 but have made it to 9th prestige just because every other game seems to bore me to death right now.
