Name 5 video game companies that you think won't survive next gen and why

How is THQ coming up??

Saints Row essentially fills the roll that GTA left open.
Company of heroes is the definitive strategy game.
Metro 2033 is practically the love child of PC gaming atm.

Not to mention, Darksiders 2 which is literally their biggest game for the year. The Saint's Row franchise is their money maker though so if they continue support for it and make rational decisions for the company as a whole(They have a new CEO with big plans), they can pull through next gen.

One other thing: Brink didn't flop. How it sold over 2 million copies is beyond my comprehension.

It sold that many cause i can go down to the shop and pick it up for 1/4 of its retail price. It flopped alright.

It seems they have a few hits, but I don't know can withstand too many more flops. I know they were the first company I thought of when I read the title.

Really?! Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction Guerrilla, WWE 12(Personally haven't played it but it has a strong reputation), Saints Row, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Seem to be pretty damn good in my book.

Really?! Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction Guerrilla, WWE 12(Personally haven't played it but it has a strong reputation), Saints Row, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Seem to be pretty damn good in my book.

Red Faction Armageddon caused them more harm then good unfortunately and last I heard, they won't invest in a franchise for it. WWE hasn't been doing as well lately since they're just simple cash-ins to them(Truth be told I have yet to play 12). But the iterations before it only had minor changes.

Personally out of all the games you mentioned above, I only like Darksiders.

Obsidian - Already losing money + can't develop for shit, their writers deserve to move to better developers though
Eat Sleep Play - Now that their contract with Sony has ended and Jaffe has left, they'll need to find a new publisher and mastermind
Mistwalker - None of their games have sold amazingly well, it's been proven time and time again this gen that JRPGs sell the most on PS consoles
Square Enix - Final Fantasy is pretty much done in Japan, from this point on it'll be catered to the west until its dry, as said previously, Eidos' games will keep them afloat

Yeah that's true. I had forgotten it was going to be an MMO. And I just saw the first week sales numbers on it. Not too good compared to past DQ's. But some commenters brought up a good point about people possibly waiting for the Wii U version.

Another silly decision is that SE will close your account after 3 months of inactivity, I haven't played DC Universe Online for like 6 months but I know my stats will still be there when I do eventually go back, and that's a F2P MMO.

Yep:

According to Square Enix, if you do not log in for online play for over three months, it’s possible that the game’s server will delete your character data. (No doubt, this is to keep from overworking servers, so in that regard, it might make sense.)
