We don't really have access to that kind of information as PS comes under the entertainment and services (or something?), and the main reason for the substantial lossess in that division is because of the TV business. That's my understanding of it anyway. Vita's struggle and the decline of console sales across all platforms is probably the main reason for the loss in specifically 'games' division
With all that said. Sony is a sinking ship. Fuck this, I'm done.Last edited by Nitey; 08-02-2012 at 21:42.

From what I remember, they announced a loss in the gaming division back when they implemented the billion dollar warranty. I think they have been in the green ever since. I am not sure about the ENTIRE entertainment division though. I imagine ZUNE has been a loss for them.

Like, AaronSOLDIER said, it has been profitable. The only difference is that they're making less this first quarter compared to last year's.
I expect this to continue as time passes by without a PS4 announcement. Or they might turn a percentage increase in profit with their casual approach this holiday season, but if that happens then Sony might start to casualize the PS division. Next year's first quarter should be livelier and hopefully we'll get a Vita price cut by then.

Nintendo out of the big three is in the best shape going forward and they are even losing money. We can rest assure that none of the big 3 will end up like atari but its a hard market right now

SCE is a huge part of sony's profits and losses as well. While yes SCE is being discuss its important to know the whole picture because it is part of Sony If sony goes down so does playstation brand unless they sell it off. Nintendo is strictly gaming and obviously merchandising their IP's as well they have 14 billion in the bank CASH. They'll be ok and Microsoft....we all know they are banking and can afford to have a failing console (which is not the case with xbox360)...
Microsoft is consistently on top of the Forbes 500 list they are trying to kill off sony to basically my point is to emphasize how important the ps4 is to sony and how important it is that its a major hit more so than ps3. Sony as a WHOLE company cant afford the PS4 to stumble like the Vita

Sorry to burst your bubble but that's irrelevant to this discussion.

It could be from monstrous investments from games like God of War Ascension, The Last of Us, Beyond, Gran Turismo 6, new game from Santa Monica, Guerrilla games, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, and so on. Then you have investments on Vita and a next gen Playstation. Sony really likes to throw money around.

Sony started making a profit on PS3 in 2010 so in 2010 they were making a profit as a whole SCE division then the Vita went into R&d (which takes from profits and if rumors are true R&d on the ps4 was going on in 2010 as well) which cost money. The Vita currently struggling is causing SCE to loss money given investments made in r&d and marketing while they actually make a profit on hardware it doesnt stop the bleeding. Simply but SCE is in the RED right now while they are less in the RED then they were in the past fact is they are still in the RED.
With the PS4 Looming and taking R&D money and future marketing money Sony needs to make the Vita a HIT or hope the PS4 is a MEGA hit im taking about Wii Numbers (first 4 years). Basically by me bring up Microsoft's overall state and Sony's overall state as a companies displays which company can afford to lose money in gaming is RELEVANT because if XBOX fails Microsoft isnt going to fail as a company it'll still keep making money. Now SCE as someone said earlier they are one of the 3 pillars at Sony if they fail good chance Sony may go down with SCE as well or SCALE back dramatically. This is how BUSINESS works and the video game industry is a business.
Simply put PS4 cant launch and struggle how the Vita currently is SONY the company wont make it.

All Sony has to do is get the basics right and the PS4 will be a success. The amount of mistakes they made going into this gen and they still managed to sell over 60 million is quite impressive.
Easier said than done, but get the price right, secure some 3rd party exclusives (unlikely as these have become a rarity), have an attractive UI and network experience. We all know they have the studios and IPs to keep the games coming.
Personally, I think next gen will be more about the UI experience, features and services (network). Microsoft is in a better position in that regard being a software company. I'm not one of those that suggest LIVE is the best thing sliced bread but the experience is quicker, convenient and simple. That's kind of what people look for these days, simplicity - just look at iOS..
Whoever gets that right will most likely runaway with it

of note...
This report was the first in which Sony lumped PS2 and PS3 sales together, as well. Combined, those two home consoles sold 2.8 million units - down from 3.2 million the year before.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...vita-strugglesUPDATE: We've just listened in to Sony's investor call, where shareholders have the chance to ask questions about the company's results. Sony refused to break down individual platform sales for PlayStation Vita when asked, despite having done so in the past.

Yeah thats really the key part of the article. Looks to me like Sony is trying to hide the poor Vita sales numbers from their shareholders by trying to inflate the overall numbers by lumping them together with PSP numbers rather than break it down for each platform.
