    What Do You Work At?

Not sure if something like this was posted up here before but sure i'll start anyway.

Even though we are going through a very bad economic climate were a lot of people dont have jobs, i was just wondering about the people who are fortunate to have a job and what is it that you do?

So, as the title says, "What Do You Work At?"

I am a quality forklift test driver for truck mounted forklifts working for a company called Cargotec. Basically i have to test all the new truck mounted forklifts that come off that factory line to make sure that they are up highest quality that we guarantee the customer. ie, all the functions on the forklift work correctly, make sure there are no hydraulic oil leaks etc etc.

What about yous folks? What do you work at?

Funny thing is, a lot of people don't have jobs because they choose not to have jobs. There are a ton of jobs available that illegals currently perform because so many American's don't want to do manual labor anymore, or they think a college education has awarded them the right to not start at the bottom.

Anyway, on topic, I am a commercial insurance broker at a small to medium privately owned independent insurance brokerage firm. I work with businesses anywhere from small DBA's to large multinational firms across all types of industries, handling their risk management and insurance needs (among other things).

I agree with ya here mate. Its the same here in Ireland. I know a few lads that quit work because they can get more on the social welfare than working full time because they are married and have "so" many children. Its not worth their while working if they can get more from the government instead of working in a job.
I'm sure its the same everywhere though. Thats another subject all together though.

Shipping & Receiving at a big risk insurance company, love the job but don't like the uptight white collar folk.

I'm a full time college student, I receive help from my parents and have a bit of income.

I want to become a dental hygienist and go to work. I want nice things and not have to live check to check.

I'm a freelance designer. I get to work from home, work what hours I want, the pay is good and I love the job itself. Can't complain.

My personal opinions are not endorsed by PSU. But they should be.

I'm an english trainer. I work with both private and business clients. I'm slowly working my way to becoming a professional business english trainer cause that's where the real €€€ are found. I have A LOT of flexibility in my hours (pretty much have a 4 day weekend every week, bar a few morning classes on Friday and some evening classes on Monday). It's a good job, just teaching people to speak my native language and I can find work in any non english speaking country with ease.

I just picked up my first PRIVATE client (not through the school I work for), and will be earning €50 for 2 hours teaching a week.

You obviously have never lived in California where illegal immigration is a major problem with little to no enforcement. Out there the illegals have pretty much taken over all the formerly good paying construction jobs. I say formerly good paying because these construction companies hire illegals for a fraction of the wage that they used to pay to legal citizens. I've seen the same thing in other industries as well when I used to live out there. Arizona has the same problem. Now out here in Texas I haven't seen that happening yet at least not where I live. (Maybe it happens in the bigger cities out here?) But it eventually will I think. And granted there are those kind of people you described (I've met some of them) but to say illegals do the jobs that Americans wont? Thats a load of bs. That might have been true many years ago but not anymore. Anyway illegal immigration isnt the topic of this thread so I'll end my rant now. I just had to address that bit of misinformation that I hear alot of illegal immigrant sympathizers try to use when you debate them. Anyway, carry on.

About to graduate this November with a double degree in Tourism Management and Business Studies. Afterwards, I'll move to Melbourne, Australia, with my girlfriend and apply for a partner visa that will grant me unlimited access to Australia, including full working and insurance rights.

If all that goes down smoothly I would like to work my way up in the entertainment industry to a managerial position, starting in a marketing environment.
