If PS4 will feature resolution beyond 1080P!?

Me and my friend were talking yesterday and discussed about the PS4 resolution. If PS4 will have resolution beyond 1080p and our current TVS support only 1080p. Then Sony or other manufacturers most bring out a TV that is capable of supporting whatever PS4 resolution will have. And I think personally that no one will care much about getting a new TV for PS4. Due to the price and as it is with PS3. Not all PS3 users have an HD TV until now, and Iam of them to say the truth. I haven't had the money to get a good an HD LED TV until last year when I have worked and bought a Samsung LED TV which I got it 4 or 5 years after the PS3 was released. What do you guys think? Just wondering guys as I think that is very important to us to know a little about.

That would be cool if it did support a higher resolution, ONLY if they actually use it and the system isn't under powered. I would buy a higher resolution TV if that happened.

I'll be surprised if 1080p @60fps is even a standard on the next gen console. So.. higher than that? Not happening since the tv's supporting that are a few at most.

I think we'll see more games running in 1080p but nothing higher than that for a good while. And I doubt 60 frames per second will become the norm, as some of the best-looking games run at half the frame rate.

As long as there aren't any titles like GTA IV that run at 640p.

If they look that much better and other aspects of the games are utilizing the "umph" while keeping the fps at 30, I suppose that is acceptable.

Well it would be a great feature if Sony's thinking ahead, have consoles ready for the next maximum output resolution. Like it could run smoothly @ 1080p 60fps but can handle higher resolutions.

Ohh so than you are saying that we won't see higher than 1080p runs at 60fps? But we have now 1080p and they have to show something different in the next generation console.

Just stick to 1080p... its got to be the most common resolution on tvs out there by now, and there is nothing wrong with having it the same as this gen

Most of the so called 1080p games arent even 1080p native. Even GT5 is upscaled 1080p. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-tech-analysis

How long has the PS3 been out after the "features" being announced with 1080p hd games? Now, count on a single hand how many games were actually 1920 x 1080 natively... smh

Why on earth would they push that kind of resolution to the public that won't have tv's that support it for how long...?

Did you even read the OP? He debunks the thought immediately.

I guess you are right and I was rushed with my friend and got happy as we are into technology lol. But we most see a little different atlease in graphic than the PS3 resolution. Don't you think that will be cool?

I don't no friend but I have guessed that every year technology is improving and by having a new console such as PS4 and it most have something beyong 1080P which will make the cosonle look super and etc. But I might be wrong. D:

There's no way that could happen. Having even ~30+ FPS at 1080p for all games should be considered an achievement, in my opinion.

They will support higher resolution and hopefully higher refresh rates as well.
The only limiting factor for high resolutions and display refresh rates is the data bandwidth required to send to the TV.

Current displayport 1.2 can already carry 4k x 2k (4x pixels to 1080p) image to TV with full 60hz, support for resolutions higher than 1080p is given for a ps4.

In terms of GPU all dx11 compatible hardware need to support 16k x16k resolution for textures, which means render to texture etc. as well.
So If there's enough memory on the machine, it can support whatever resolution TV:s can accept. (Or even quite large arrays..)

What games will output as native resolution is entirely different thing, especially as graphics rendering is constantly evolving in direction of de-coupled shading.
You do not shade each pixel, but shade where the information is needed most.

Above 1080p is too much to ask of consumers most have made the switch to an HD TV already but to switch again to get the best picture quality is startign to touc PC territory and we all know most hate the fact PC gaming requires upgrades every so often.

The technology has been there for years readily available, Nvidia and certain displays have allowed PC players to play with "2X the picture clarity of 1080p HD televisions"

So if it is in Sony's plan and vision for console and TV sets, it only requires a market they think is worth exploiting for the greenlight to beyond 1080p.

I doubt it though, still seems to niche for me.

PC's have been running at higher than 1080p and 60fps for years. I see no reason why a console couldn't match even the older PC's of the past few years. Seems like a no brainer to me. And just because you have only have a 1080p TV doesn't mean others might not want to upgrade to a higher res. The game will still work on the old 1080p TV's.

Yeah GT5 looks sweet on my TV too. For that matter Killzone 3 looks absolutely amazing on my TV as well and that game is 720p.

I really don't see why it would be any higher than 1920x1080p. The "XHD" formats aren't even really in vogue for the TV markets, they're hardly even a blip on the horizon. I mean yes, being forward thinking you have to guess where resolutions may be in 5-7 years, but even then I think 1080p is both an acceptable and safe area to plop your standard resolution at for a game.

More than likely (imo) super HD resolutions will hit consumer electronics in the mobile and desktop areas long before televisions. In fact, this is already happening right now (as it did in the past with 720 and 1080). The iPad3 features a 2048-1536 screen and PC's (and iMacs) have these kinds of pixel dimensions too.

But they're hardly the 'standard' right now and TV's are assuredly playing catch up.

Some 85% of PC users have a resolution higher than 720p (source:
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp), and the majority of that number most definitely falls right at 1080p. Television owner numbers should be drastically behind this.

    Nor you should.
Most games will use 1080p as the 'resolution to aim for, as it is first true native resolution for TVs had for long time. (No TVs outside CRTs and couple other display native 720p, it is always scaled.)

Simply put, having support for higher than 1080p 60hz doesn't cost a thing and is prerequisite for future stereo 3D and VR sets to be feasible.
For VR something like 2560x720 with 120hz would be nice starting point..

Indeed, even if there's no such thing as HDTVs in the market capable of running a higher resolution than 1080p but they are likely to hit the market within the coming years so PS4 being ready for them would be great.

When PS3 came out, most of the people weren't on HDTV's.
