The Last Guardian trademark dead and abandoned

I gotta say that after Shadow of the Colossus my main driving force into buying a PS3 was for whatever Team ICO was making next. If i went to the past and told my younger self that its 2012 and we still dont have a PS3 Team ICO game and its possibly cancelled i think my younger self would have cried. This gen sure has had its share of surprises and disappointments.

Agree. NO game (project in my mind at the time) was higher on my list than this game when I bought my 60GB PS3 in December 2006.

MGS4 and yearly NCAA Football games were the only games on par with it. Some right below (GOW3), etc.

MGS4 was amazing. GOW3 was amazing. Some surprises like the Uncharted series but NCAA games this gen have been atrocious and this game still not coming out have been major disappointments. It is why I have called this gen the worst in my lifetime and I'm 30. Most powerful and capable consoles ever made and we have less games, parody in games that have come out (almost all FPS games or cover based TPS games) and amazingly bad vaporware and disappointingly over-hyped games.

TLG is certainly going to be cancelled or go the Ico route and be a PS4 game. I just wish they would say so, either way. I still think the game will be released under SOME name (may have changed the name or be titled differently in NA/EU than in JP) but I cannot say with certainty if it will ever be on the PS3. My thought is that given the amount of different studios they have over there "helping", they are trying to run a game on a console that simply cannot run it and they will port it to PS4 like TeamIco did with Ico on the PS1-2 OR they ill outright get sick of dumping cash and cancel it.

Truth be told, after so much waiting, I'd take cancel or port to PS4 over it being released on PS3 and it being a bad game that is choppy, buggy and watered down story wise. Anything less than their previous titles and I don't want it. It would stain their image for me and it's an image of Ueda and company being borderline artistic genius.

Not surprised. We've already seen this kind of thing with Agent, Eight Days, The Getaway and one other game who's title I forget. Once we saw nothing at E3 I knew this game was vaporware.

was intrigued, still intrigued. however, they developed this thing badly...if i recall, the old head said they made ingame assets then went about creating a story and game. ie they didn't have a clue.
my guess is they're now walking in circles scratching their heads at the mess they're starring at.

It seems that sometimes, all you need to confirm the status of a long-forgotten game is to say it’s cancelled, dead, or that somebody forgot to renew the trademark.

Thankfully, in the case of The Last Guardian – a game that today had been the subject of much discussion – all is well. Or at least, it’s still very much in development.

According to a couple of US-based journalists on Twitter just now (including Game Informer’s Jim Reilly) a representative for Sony has confirmed that the game is still alive, but that there’s “nothing new to report at this time.”

Chances are Sony just need to reapply for another extension for the trademark and get the game moving along now.

Hopefully we’ll get an official explanation as to what happened, too, given the huge amount of media attention the game has got this evening we’d have hoped for more than just a few words from SCEA’s public relations department.

I think showing a game that is in its early stages is a bad idea. I know that devs want to develop interest early on but they need to wait for a point where they are 100% certain that the project is doable and then show it.

Oh yeah, I agree. Gearbox announced their Aliens: CM game as soon as they had signed the contract with 20th Century Fox, before they had even started on the game lol. I think that game was one of the worst offenders in this regard. Well, Agent ranks up there too.

I really don't give a damn. These developers outta stop releasing trailers years b4 the team has a plausible idea when their games are actually gonna come out. And perhaps companies like Sony should be more careful on pushing dev teams (like team ICO) to show teasers for their games just to show off their consoles.

Ima gamer atm that's focusing on the here and now, and what games I KNOW are coming out. Or games in the past that I might have missed that were pretty good. And if I were yall I'd stop getting my hopes up on these "projects" that only lord knows when there actually coming out.

Actually it was a post apocalyptic game that was originally announced for 360 too and then became PS3 exclusive. It was going to be a 1080p game on PS3. Edit- It was called Wardevil. http://www.tothegame.com/screenshots...station-3.html
