http://www.rt.com/news/women-city-saudi-sharia-339/Saudi Arabia is to build a new city exclusively for women. The Gulf kingdom is working on the narrow junction between strict Sharia law and the aspirations of active females who wish to pursue their own careers.
The new plan is to combine women’s desire to work in the modern age and provide a job environment that would go hand-in-hand with the country’s Sharia law. The Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon) has been charged to lead the country into a new era.
The ambitious mono-city is now being designed with construction to begin next year. The municipality in the Eastern city of Hafuf is expected to attract 500 million riyals (US$133 million) in investments and it will create around 5,000 jobs in the textiles, pharmaceuticals and food processing industries. There will be women-run firms and production lines for women.
Saudi Sharia law does allow women to work, given that her essential duties of homemaking should not be neglected. But in reality around 15 per cent of women are represented in the workforce, according to some estimates.
The Modon plan shadows the government’s desire for women to play a more important role in the development of the country. Among the stated objectives are to create job spots for young people.
"I'm sure that women can demonstrate their efficiency in many aspects and clarify the industries that best suit their interests, their nature and their ability," Modon’s deputy director-general, Saleh Al-Rasheed, told Saudi daily al-Eqtisadiah.
Saudi’s existing industrial cities already have factories owned by women, as well as companies that employ a small portion of the female population.
Apart from Hafuf, the Saudis are developing more women-only polis projects.
“We are now working on a second industrial city for women,” said Saleh Al Rasheed. “We have plans to establish a number of women-only industries in various parts of the kingdom.”
The kingdom’s rampant desire to boost its citizen workforce participation and change the women’s unemployment rate is also changing the retail landscape. The state is attempting to replace foreign salespeople with Saudi women in its female apparel shops, according to a research carried out by Booz and Co.
This summer, women started replacing sales staff in cosmetics and perfume shops, only half a year after they replaced male sales staff in lingerie stores. By the end of the year, women plan to replace their gender counterparts in stores selling abayas, the traditional black cloak worn by women.
But despite the degree of emancipation, women's rights in Saudi Arabia are still defined by Islam and lack basic freedoms found in many Western cultures. For instance, Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving.
Yet recently efforts have been made to change the societal structure in the kingdom.
Last September, King Abdullah announced that women will be able to vote and run in the 2015 local elections, and be appointed to the Consultative Assembly.
This July, women also obtained the right to represent their country at the London Olympic Games.

Given it's in a country with Sharia Law, this is pretty damn big achievement.

Sara Attar was the first female athlete to represent Saudi Arabia. The old ways are on the way out.

Pretty big deal for that country...
As for equality between men and women thats NEVER going to be 50/50 however that respect needs to be 50/50 this would be part of a whole other topic however. I feel Men do things better than women and Women do things better than men so it can never be 50 50

Men and women should be equal, but some countries do not want to lose their old customs and ways they have built up for 100's or 1,000's of years
I would love men and women to be equal, its just we have a long way to go for that to be fact in all cultures

That will never happen unless we (both sexes) completely agree with each other on everything, no matter which way we word it or handle it. Or unless we are extinct and AI androids take over. Their decision will be one unifying one, so no one will ever disagree. But where's the fun in that, or the humanity in it.

Religious beliefs do not play a massive role mate, its fear that mankind will be destroyed if women got equal rights
Its fear not religious belief, well not for the most part anyway

Nice one! Would be better if men and women could work side by side but this is a movement at least. Rise of lesbianism a possibility?

I guess back in the 60's when women started burning their bra's, it was ment to be start for change and women having equal rights. But that went tits up when big companis would not let many women in the board rooms or run the company. Now women are starting a breaking through the glass ceiling to get equaly rights in the board rooms and starts business that are women only based

If u want to bring it home and make shit real. Anyone here that's ever been or is in a relationship with a woman. Is it really EVER 50 50? Does your woman cut the grass, deal with car stuff, move furniture, build things like a table stand, change light bulbs ect... My doesn't why? Not that she can't she would rather have me do it and that's fine just like I would prefer her to handle the cooking and shopping. Cleaning the house is really the only thing that is 50 50.
Things can never really be 50 50 between men and women we are built differently. However if there is that simple understanding and respect like I have in my relationship she knows there are things I'm better at and I know there are things she better at than me. It works want to talk about why women aren't CEO's and in high places because they are built different then the ones that are.....act like men and trust me I can vouch for that I come across them all the time.
While I personally don't mind seeing a women succeed I think this whole bs about men keeping women down is wrong when its really an internal struggle for women to not be how they are wired and built to succeed.
There is so many differences between men and women like how we interact with each other, how we approach decision making, ect ect..
Anyone one here that's been around both men a females how often are u hearing about a female that put ups with a man that treats then like shit and stays with them or they rely on their man for things. That's 70% of women.
So when I hear men are keeping us back we need to rise from women I laugh because in america women have all the same opportunities men have and have an advantage because of their "movement" a good percentage of men act like women giving them opportunities over men. If anything men need to make a damn movement back to what it means to be a man!
While I'm all for respecting women and I have lesbian friends...on a side note they are the coolest friends you could have love my lesbo friends!...back on topic tho while I'm all for respecting them and making sure they have the same opportunities as men do. I'm not for men acting like women to respect them or be overly sensitive to show respect I feel the same way your respectful to everyone is the same way you are respectful to women.
End rant/ lol

Its at the point now a days men are afraid to even approach a woman? Our fathers would be disappointed in there day it wasn't an issue. Now we have men that are insecure when it comes to even talking with a woman wtf!!!
Look at the social dynamics of this women want 50 50 equal ok cool no problem so why is it that the man has to make the approach or make the first move? Why couldn't they make that move or approach and again there are times rare times they do I've had a female approach me in the past to spark a convo. So basically the woman wants you to be a man but then not be a man at the same time? Are you kidding me?
Once women understand it will never be 50 50 and its not because your a woman its because everyone is not equal men to men woman to woman its not men holding you back its just you as a person! Can't get a good man, Job, or anything u ever wanted its on you not men!

Exactly it seems they have a respect and appreciation for each other strengths that to me is 50 50...that's how it works in my house my girl will cook cause she is better if anything is wrong with her car I deal with it and all the outside yard work.

Hmmm, why this does feel like you're taking shots at me subjectively lol. Not every man will be confident. I'm not because you already know why.Its at the point now a days men are afraid to even approach a woman? Our fathers would be disappointed in there day it wasn't an issue. Now we have men that are insecure when it comes to even talking with a woman wtf!!!
I would rather still want the woman to approach me instead while I don't have the confidence, then when I do, I will approach her. It's really fear of rejection why guys like me can't talk to women without saying something stupid or embarrassing.

No workload is split. Both patents mowe the grass, both change lightbulbs, both cook, both clean, both work. Both do DIY fairly evenly. But I guess there is the odd occasion stuff isn't equal. Although last tome car broke they were both out there even if perhaps my dad knew what he was doing more.

As my wife will tell you, equal does NOT mean "the same".
There are many things that are different between my wife an myself. In some cases we are exact opposites. However, that does not make us unequal, that just makes us different. My wife is every bit my equal, even if I do all of the lawn work and car care while she cleans the laundry and cooks.
