For some reason I'm sure if MS was behind the competition they would have and Xbox 3 would have been out ages ago
I'm sure there a saying, Don't judge a man when he is successful as its when he is down his true qualities shine through or something like that.
And didn't the 360 come out christmas 05?
That would make it going in its 7th year not 8th
Same with PS3 will be in its 6th this Nov
Nov 06 - 07 = 1
Nov 07 - 08 = 2
Nov 08 - 09 = 3
Nov 09 - 10 = 4
Nov 10 - 11= 5
Nov 11 - 12 = 6
So basically that PS3 is currently in it 5 year on the market ( less for Europe by a few months)
And 360 is 6 going into its 7th!

Being selective in your history there. As I've already said twice in this thread MS had to drop the Xbox with Nvidia gouging them on licensing fees. No way was MS going to be able to profit on that console with Nvidia bleeding them dry. They even went to court over it. Thats why MS bought the license for the tech this time around. So you cant just say MS will drop 360 based on what happened with the first Xbox. There was good reason for MS to do this.

It could be argued that someone who wants to buy a cheaper HD console in the coming months/years probably would have already bought a console if he/she had friends who they wanted to game with.
Also, PS3 is still totally capable of letting someone play with their friends. lol Not everyone who buys a console is a multiplayer gamer.
Lastly, do you think Activision are going to bother making CoD games for 7th gen consoles a few years into next gen? They might port their 8th gen titles down I guess.
Your point about exclusives not mattering is fair enough, but again, when a late adopter walks down the gaming isles, exclusives are going to be abit more relevant when there are dozens more titles to choose from in the Sony area and the best are all bundled together at crazy ass prices. Look at those collections already, GoW (5 games!), inFamous, R&C and the EU (or was it US) blog manager said to watch for further announcements of these collections. There are already Resistance and Uncharted bundles as well. Bottom line is, yes, while 3rd party is powering a generation, exclusives aren't as important...but when 3rd party starts drifting to next gen, it could be a different story, and Sony doesn't seem to be shying away from the PS3 which is evident by the 5 new IPs they are releasing at the arse end of this gen.
It's all speculation! Who knows what the fuck is gonna happen but it's interesting to talk about. As Soldier mentioned, 3rd party are not going to turn away from a combined install base of over 150,000,000 lol. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. So many are harping on and foaming at the mouth about the need for next gen consoles so if this is common among the gaming industry, 3rd party might have abit more incentive to move on.
Would be funny if next gen consoles sold like ass and the figures showed people were happy enough with gen 7.Last edited by Ghost-Rhayne; 08-16-2012 at 22:04.

My comment was none related to the original Xbox, I just believe thats their strategy
If they can't beat em, force a new cycle
A bit like a gamer who disconnects when losing
Not saying they'll will guaranteely do that, that's just how I see them

Nov 05 start year 1
Nov 06 start year 2
Nov 07 start year 3
Nov 08 start year 4
Nov 09 start year 5
Nov 10 start year 6
Nov 11 start year 7
Nov 12 start year 8
Nov 13 will complete year 8, starting year 9.
That is for the Xbox 360. Like I said, they start their 8th year of production this November.

I don't really care for next gen. I mean what could it really bring? Plus, I think both MS and Sony will be making a big mistake if they release too soon (anything earlier than 2014).
The market just seems like they're not really ready for something new at this time, when things like tablets are still all the rage. Apart from forum goers, everyone will just be buying Wiis and iPads...

I dunno man. Console sales all round have been declining at a pretty rapid rate which screams to me that people are done with this gen. Not me personally, but ya know, those 'masses'. They're itching to see a next-gen CoD and so on <- Don't get offended by this people
. I didn't mean anyone here, because I know quite a lot here want next gen too, but for other reasons
Or perhaps it's more inline with what youre saying; tablets and smartphones are convincing people there is no need to to buy a console and basically eating into console sales
Maybe a mixture of both?

Which would only happen if next gen consoles price themselves out of the market. And since the wii u is expected to come in at $300, next xbox at ~$400 and PS4 below ~$500. that doesn't seem likely.
Not to mention this will be the longest generation ever and who know how much more PC hardware will trounce 7th gen consoles in 2013.
This gen has had a good run, but its time to move on. Even game developers are tired of this gen which shows with the lack of new ip's and lessening of improvements in existing titles/ip's.
Hell UE4 hasn't even been properly revealed to the public.

To be fair to MS, and their development stratagy, I think you will see games that are develpoed for both 360 and 720 simply because MS will make it so dam easy for developers to do.
I can easily see the 720 SDK having a 360 compiler target profile built into it, because thats the sort of thing MS excell at.
I wouldnt at all be surprised if games near launch have both 360 and 720 version of them released, for relativly little expense to the developer, indeed its one of the reaosns I think devs have 720 SDK's already.
I wouldnt be surprised if (not that Im saying they will) MS announced the 720 in March with launch titles that included say, Splinter Cell:Blacklist that runs like a high end PC verison already to launch with it.
MS aim will be to make COD:MW4, cost as little as possible to develop for 360 and 720 simultanously.
Thats a key advantage they have, Sony may have a tonne of developers writing code, but MS writes the compilers.

must be different shops down your way as i've yet to walk down an isle and see more than 2 or 3 PS3 exclusives in the PS3 isles, usually full with the big multi-plats and very seldom PS3 exclusives that are more than 6 months old.
fact of the matter is that if your new to this gen then there is any amount of games for either console at very low prices and the amount will continue to grow.

the day nextbox arrives in my house is the day i stop using 360 for anything other than games i already own and if the past is anything to go by... most all people i know will also give up on this gen once they have moved over to nextbox.
i say nextbox as this is the last gen i will own all consoles. Wii U and Nextbox only with nextgen.

I agree, as soon as I got my 360 and PS3, my Xbox and PS2 were toast. I can see some games being released for the older consoles after the next gen starts, but any title worth owning will be on the new consoles.
I can't recall a game worth buying for the Xbox or PS2 after the 360 and PS3 were released.I don't need no stinkin' signature!
