No no, I actually played GOWII, FFXII and Tomb Raider Anniversary( which never got a Nextgen release) and Hitman Bloodmoney or was it contracts? On my PS3
But yeah the Big titles was none existence on Nextgen consoles with the exception of a few ports with upgraded textures, what we had was sports games and upgraded versions of PS2 games which was just a bunch of Ubi B grades
That's why I always say that before PS3 launched Nextgen hadn't really started with the exception a 2 or 3 titles on 360, the rest was a load of crap and even after the PS3 its took time before the proper nextgen titles came
I think the same will happen this gen too

To be honest, while the games still role out and look amazing and we continue to add features to our consoles 6 and 7 years in I do agree a next gen console is necessary for both companies to continue to grow revenue. Adding up all the consoles for this gen nintendo, sony, and microsoft they basically exceed last gen. The market has grown. Now everyone is fighting over the scraps and trying to sell 2nd consoles to those Wii owners and eat away at each others install base. Your not going to eat away at PCers because those games are well advanced from the consoles. I just don't think any company is going to see a continued growth at a level enough to keep their shareholders satisfied. Next gen is coming....and will come quickly. I'm thinking new xbox by holiday '13 and Sony by spring/summer '14.
Who will continue to support their consoles past the next release best I believe will be Sony. They have a history of doing it and are stronger in the global markets. As we see with the PS2...their consoles in developing markets continue to sell and the PS3 will have legs. Perhaps not in America and the greater EU but in those other markets...Sony is just stronger...better retail channels and much better brand identification.

I don't know....most people on the 360 pretty well agree next gen starts when the Halo franchise makes its entrance. When that happens you see mass exodus from one console to the next. For Sony they don't have that one game that will carry adopters over. Its a slower transition. There will be ports for both platforms but you will see enough new ips and games that won't be ported that usually shifts the emphasis of gamers. There will be one or two gems late in a gen after next gen has started....but the promise of greater gameplay and graphics won't stop the shift of gamers attention.

Makes me wonder what effect games like Guild Wars 2 and Dust 514 (and maybe even Diablo 3) will have on current gen moving into next. Guild Wars 2 would be especially huge. I mean I will be playing that for years to come if it makes it onto consoles and I doubt Anet are thinking about a next gen port (or maybe they are). Also there is FF online coming, another MMO. Kojima said his Fox Engine is for current generation consoles too. I can't wait to see how things pan out next gen in terms of current gen support.

I know what he meant but he also made my point as well without intending to. And Sony was the only participant because theyre the only ones who showed. How do you participate in an event that you dont show up for? You might want to check your dictionary for the meaning of participant. lol

That's Legend, actually stays Legend in the discription lol
Anniversary was the remake which only got a PS2,PSP,Wii and PC release at launch, but I believe it was released later as a downloadable for 360, but the graphics were PS2, unlike Legend that actually had a graphics update
It didn't even have a nextgen mode on PC like Legend did, shame really

Im not saying it was any good, but then again it was a remake.

Ahh, see I didn't know they released a disc based version too, but that was a year later has it says in the Ign review and was a straight PS2 port, which is probably confusing if you owned Legend on 360 and brought that, " what happened to the graphics man"
But thats what I mean, it never got a nextgen treatment and 360 owners waited a year for a straight PS2 port, not even worth bothering really.

I think IGN's point simply was to asky and highlight why MS didn't show. Mocking Sony as the only participant is overlooking that.

Ya right, if a competitor doesn't show it just because they ain't participating everyone should do this as its seen as ok, we can make jokes about the one that did have something to show lol
wonder if that works in boxing or football?
England should do this, saves the embarrassment :-/

Didn't Microsoft say they wanted to focus on their own events. Sounds like they would rather be the exclusive attention and focus on controlling the setting about what, how, and why they are releasing. Not saying it is bad but I would think the publicity of Gamescon would be much bigger but then again they would have to share the spotlight.
Clearly Sony didn't have to share it...they shined!

08-18-2012 #123http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...-gamescom-2012Microsoft has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that it won't be attending this year's Gamescom in Cologne, instead choosing to focus on smaller, localised promotional events.
The story originally surfaced on German site Mediabiz, but was confirmed shortly afterwards by a UK Microsoft representative. "In the lead up to the launch of Halo 4, Gears of War: Judgment, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey and Dance Central 3, among other titles and entertainment experiences, Xbox is focusing on smaller, more-localized experiences for customers, partners, retailers and press around the world," reads the statement.
"As a result, Xbox will not be exhibiting directly at gamescom in Cologne, Germany in August this year. Selected Xbox titles will still be showcased by our publishing partners at the event, and we wish the BIU well for the show."

MS didnt need to show up but Sony definitely did because of the struggling Vita platform. Gamescom was mostly about Vita. MS isnt concerned about what Sony is doing in the portable space. Sony used Gamescom to counter the bad Vita press and hopefully generate more interest. As for consoles MS already has a great xmas lineup for the hardcore gamer while Sony is just bringing kiddie games on the exclusive front. Maybe its Sony that should be embarrassed this xmas. And they propably will be when the xmas sales numbers roll in.
