For those of you who think rape is about power, I want to ask you something.
On this channel, Nat Geo, there is a show called "Taboo". This show takes a look at subject and issues that society considers Taboo.
On the episode about "Premartial Sex", they reveal there is a country that has an interesting take on premartial sex. The parents actually encourage their daughters to have sex and build sex huts for them to take boys into. So teenage girls can take boys into their huts and have sex with them.
What does this have to do with rape, you ask? Guess what? Rape is very rare in that community and area.
So, what do you think? Those of you who think rape is about power and not sex drive, why do YOU think rape is so rare in that community and area?
Note: Yes, I know I didn't post a video or article, but I couldn't find one and the one I found was the ENTIRE episode, not a segment that shows only this part.
Edit 2: I found a video that doesn't show the entire episode!

The phrase "premarital marriage" is farcical.
The whole setup sounds seedy and wrong and a pretense for shady shenanigans.
But I have not seen the episode.Last edited by keefy; 08-17-2012 at 00:29.

Because if sex is encouraged in a community then people become educated about it. If from a youngish age you understand the complexities of sex you are likely to realise that sex does not give you the power you desire. You realise that sex is about two (or more) people and that there is an equality between the people.
You can have a massive sex drive but it doesn't mean you are going to rape somebody.

Similarly, nations that have lax pornographic laws tend to have a lower amount of sex related crimes.

yes... i think its about power.... deranged, sick, twisted power...

By Theft
I am stunned that some people appear to love their Playstation(1,2,3) or Xbox(360) more than I love the Denver Broncos.
Trust me, it's sad

This may sound crude, but could it be that because sex is such an open activity that everyone is free to indulge in, that it lowers the drive for it. So certain individuals who in our society would go without and feel deprived, in that culture everyone has a chance.

Considering that 80% of rape victims are related to, or are friends of, the rapist... at least in America... I don't think that's an entirely accurate assertion. There are some really f^>ked up people in the world and I don't think not getting any is the big picture. I'm sure if everyone was getting laid more rape would be less prevalent... but I think it's just one of many factors.

This... is my BOOMSTICK!

Sorry but that's simply bullshit...

Rape doesn't have to be reported to become rape.
Every man has a choice.
Every man has to make a decision, its not driven by your sex drive.
Is it about "power" I have no idea, because I'm not a rapist, but it certainly fucking aint about how long between getting your rocks off.

You're right there is many many factors that go into things like this, but what I said was just what came to mind and seemed to make a bit of sense. Of course I'm not generalising this over all rape cases that have even happened but it was just something interesting to think about
