Because there aren't some Final Fantasy XI fans who want to see a proper current-gen MMO release?
I disagree with the third. No need to remake a classic. And we aren't going to see Kingdom Hearts III until they release Final Fantasy Versus XIII.but you repeatedly go out of your way to NOT make the games we DO want:
1) FF Versus XIII
2) Kingdom Hearts III
3) A classic FF remake (doesn't even have to be 7!)
As opposed to leaving it alone and having fans of the online titles complain that Square Enix couldn't create a proper sequel to Final Fantasy XI?"XIV HAS to succeed" - like it's our fault or something. You're running your business by actively ignoring the feedback and wants of core consumers and then INSISTING on salvaging something we hate and convincing us it's not terrible.
The problem with the franchise is that Square Enix has too many different fans to please. All of the games from the PSone, PS2 and PS3 generations have their own unique gameplay mechanics. The FF reputation is already tarnished, so how about you just make the games consumers want and stop running your business like a pretentious think tank?
And if you want Final Fantasy Versus XIII information, wait for Nomura and his team to show off the game at this year's Tokyo Game Show.Last edited by Blacksite; 08-19-2012 at 18:30.

Yea I agree that there are ALOT of fans who wanted another FF MMO. More people probably wanted a regular offline game, but there is a substantial amount of people who loved XI and were willing to try out a brand new FF themed MMO. How do we know? Well I was there at the launch of FFXIV and there were a buttload of people playing the game in the first week. You could barely get into a server at the start. And many people talk on forums and such about the FF MMOs. XI moreso then XIV because it has a much larger installed base.
This gen has gone terribly wrong for SE. A linear FF game, an MMO that wasnt complete, and no main KH title in sight. SE needs to make a complete 180. My personall advise would to be for them not to spread themselves then and make a dozen different FF titles at once and just focus on one (maybe two) games that can be great.

I think they just got ahead of themselves with this whole "10-year Fabula Nova Crystallis" commitment of theirs.
But I agree. I'm hoping it goes back to how they operated in the PS1/PS2 days where, from now on, it's like... Final Fantasy XV, another Online title and then Final Fantasy XVII. And if they absolutely have to make a sequel to any of those games, stick with one. You really shouldn't drag the story out with three titles.Last edited by Blacksite; 08-19-2012 at 23:04.

I do wonder if that's what they are getting at? A sudden interest in MMOs. A direction they don't need to bother with. Or maybe some kind of real time co-op perhaps.
And who has a problem with the futuristic fantasy? What would you prefer, the beaten battered, and abused mid-evil-esq fantasy

They don't have a "sudden interest in MMOs" it's just the company had been working on a follow-up MMO FF title for years. It had been called Project Rapture. The next 2-3 FFs won't be MMOs.
Would also like to say, this topic is a little misleading. The title makes you think the series is in danger of ending if FFXIV RR isn't successful. I saw a link to the article and that's not what they were getting at. Heres a quote..
"Losing your fans' trust is very easy thing to do. Regaining it is very hard," Yoshida said. "We believe Final Fantasy 14 is a starting point, and that players joining us will think 'oh wow, this is great, I'll see what they can do with Final Fantasy 15 or 16'"

I guess I just saw the article as this, the first version of FFXIV didn't live up to their expectation or their quality of games. Final Fantasy XIII saw a pretty big backlash too. Since they have NEVER had a FF game fail, and not to mention XI was their most profitable FF game ever, they cannot let XIV be a colossal failure with all the money and years they sank into this project. I saw it as sort of a pride issue as well.
Would there be a FFXV regardless of XIV's success? Yeah. However, S-E will fight a hard battle to woo fans for XV if XIV's 2.0 is bad. People are already extremely sensitive to ANYTHING S-E does. They need a victory in this generation and it starts with XIV imo.

^^ I suppose, Would be interesting to see their spin on the time period. Might be refreshing as far as that goes but I reserve that judgement for when it happens.
