via Eurogamer. An enterprising AllGamesBeta journalist filmed a Beyond: Two Souls presentation at Gamescom. The result is seven minutes of gameplay footage (posted below) from Quantic Dream's exclusive new PlayStation 3 game, and the bonus tones of the game's French project lead, David Cage, speaking over the top.
Note, this gameplay has been seen before, by us, behind closed doors at E3. Ultimately, our Oli Welsh chose a different section of Beyond to write about at E3 - the part where heroine Jodie Holmes sits in a chair in a sheriff's office, all suspense and intrigue. Nonetheless, this newly filmed footage hasn't ever been shared with the public.
It shows Jodie Holmes escaping a lot of police. She falls off her motorbike, she's hurt, she's surrounded. But the police and special forces keep their distance - they know what she's capable of.
She's capable of calling on her special power - her ethereal link to invisible ghost entity Aidan. Aidan can't fly too far from Holmes, but he can pass through matter and interact with objects and enemies.
The demonstrator takes control of Aidan and shows us what he can do.
Our Martin Robinson tracked down David Cage this week at Gamescom. "I'm not a frustrated movie director," Cage announced, before revealing that Beyond took 12 months to shoot and has a script of 2000 pages.
It looks cool but I hope the rest of the game is a little more challenging.

These games are not meant to be challenging but rather focus on an immersing story along with a great plot (yes, there is a difference between story and plot), all packed together into an amazing narrative.

I think this game is more about the choices and decisions you make in the game and experiencing how they pan out and effect the story more than offering difficult gameplay, at least that how it seems to me. How hard can it get being a ghost who can strangle and possess people and bring down clock towers haha. I don't really care about the difficulty, I guess because this game is more about narrative. I'm more curious to see the story...The story changes in so many ways according to how you play, including how you choose to you Aiden in combat IIRC.

I liked the footage and this game really isn't on my radar. It definitely is more about interacting with things around you rather than typical action sequences over and over again. Creates a more unique feel to it. Will be interested to see how it molds together. And yes, the facial animations were insanely well done.

I don't see what the quality of the story has to do with providing gameplay that, in one way or another, challenges the player. There's no sense of urgency when your enemies are going to keep their distance. It just looks like you're triggering different sequences to set up the money shot.
And it doesn't really matter to me that the game is being unique since there are lots of games that are trying to stand out from the crowd. The Unfinished Swan, for example. But I don't see the fun in walking around aimlessly with paint flying about to help find my way to... wherever. Lol.
The visuals do look great though and the story seems interesting. I just don't think that's enough to warrant a 60 dollar purchase. Games like The Last of Us look far more compelling.Last edited by Blacksite; 08-19-2012 at 00:54.

I noticed a lack of urgency too, but keep in mind...they were showing the game off. The game in final form may not just let you twiddle your thumbs and pull off a bunch of combo sequences with no consequences to the player. I was impressed with what was shown, but not sure if I will be buying it myself.

Yeah that did irk me abit (SWAT not advancing), I hope that this was just for demo purposes. The sense or urgency was done well in HR though so let's wait and see.

Me likey.
There are innumerable games out there all about the gameplay. Games that are about story, character interaction, emotion & mood are more rare. That doesn't mean these games have no gameplay, just that the gameplay supports other elements rather than being the star. These types of games are some of my favorite games.
Shut up and play games
