Hollywood director Tony Scott 'jumps to death from bridge'...

Hollywood director Tony Scott, famous for films including Top Gun, has died after jumping from a bridge in Los Angeles, the authorities have said.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office said Scott's death was being investigated as a suicide.

British-born Scott, brother of Alien director Ridley, shot to fame in the 1980s with a string of action films.

The 68-year-old's blockbuster hits included Crimson Tide, Days of Thunder and Beverly Hills Cop II.

The coroner said Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which spans San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles.

Lt Joe Bale, from the coroner's office, said the director was seen parking his car and jumping into the water at about 12:30 (19:30 GMT) on Sunday.

His body was recovered from the harbour less than three hours later.

"We will go where the facts take us. We have no reason to believe it was not a suicide," Lt Bale told the BBC.

Scott was famous for his fast-paced blockbusters, and carved out a distinctive style to his films using fast editing and digital effects.

He made a number of films with actor Denzel Washington, including Man on Fire and most recently Unstoppable.

At the time of his death, he was rumoured to be working with Tom Cruise on a sequel to Top Gun.

They found his suicide note in his car and there were eye witnesses seeing him jump so it definitely looks like suicide. The question is why.

I said "I wonder what really happened" as in what could have caused this tragic. No one will just commit suicide just for the heck of it.

I would also like to read, Dave-The-Rave's reason for giving me a thumbs down.

It was suicide, end of..move on from another bloody RIP thread for someone who quite frankly I would have never knew died until Top Gun or something randomly came up in a conversation years from now...which it probably wouldn't.

I doubt it will go ahead now. Making a sequel to Top Gun 30 years later was already a pretty crazy idea, and without the original director, I doubt they'll still do it.

Seems he had inoperable brain cancer. This is most likely the reason he did it.

Thank you, at least someone here understood what I meant.

So he had inoperable brain cancer. The source is kind of vague but if that was his reason then I can understand. He had such a good backlog of movies he worked on, shame that he's gone.

Maybe you should take your own advice and move onto a different thread if you find something wrong with a user asking for clarification. Obviously there's a reason for someone to want to commit suicide. We could just as easily be making a big deal out of your "another one bites the dust" comment.

At least you came out and said your intention so no harm done!. But yes, I made an inquiry about the reason behind his suicide and according to the article, HellJester linked, he had inoperable brain cancer.

I wonder if he went to multiple cancer facilities to check for options available to him, sometimes one doctor will say, "You're going to die soon" while another will say, "We can cure you". The information given about his medical illness was also vague so I would like to hear a bit more confirmation then that.

You have obviously never been depressed or had serious issues hindering the way you act and live. I will not get into my issues because i rather not share it on a gaming forum but lets just say i suffer from stuff.

http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/tony...-brain-cancer/ Apparently he did not have inoperable brain cancer..ABC fucked up

UPDATED: Tony Scott’s widow Donna has told police that the famed filmmaker/TV producer did not have brain cancer, informed insiders tell Deadline. That makes erroneous this morning’s Good Morning America report that he “had inoperable brain cancer” and quoting “a source close to him”. The ABC claim was widely picked up by media outlets globally (but not Deadline) as the reason why Scott committed suicide Sunday by jumping off a Los Angeles County bridge at 12:35 PM. Within half an hour ABC was backing off its story (see below). This is the third time in a month that ABC News has erroneously reported on a sensitive news story. During the Aurora movie theater shooting tragedy, ABC News first claimed the gunman was a Tea Party member which was not true. And then the shooter’s mother accused ABC News of mischaracterizing a quote from her. The issues all seem the same: ABC News is not properly vetting its news reporting.
Now I'm really curious to see what the note says.

Continuous pain or a terminal illnesses are the exception. But generally I think people can do more good alive than dead. If something is wrong or broken in your life you fix it.
