When I try to play online, it says I need to a Steam account, however when I click on the "sign up for Steam" tab, I can play and don't have to sign up. I'm sorta on the fence about joining Steam, considering it was hacked and lots of info was taken. Should I join?

You use PSN which also got hacked.
I used Steam for since 2003 if anything the stuff that was stolen was encrypted and salted (whatever salted means)
Not heard of any credit card misues as a result of either hacking PSN or Steam.

Steam is certainly more secure than PSN. You should join.

I've put about 8 hours in to this so far on PC and I suck. I really do. Every kill I get I feel like it was sheer luck. I honestly believe there is not one person out there who is worse than me at this game. I wish I could get better at it lol.

Don't get discouraged, CS is one of the most competitive shooters out there. It has a very strong/loyal fanbase, also many Valve fanboys including myself, who have been playing for years and years. Some even getting paid to do it.

You might want to test your skills with bots for a while. Slowly progress to each difficulty level. The bots are actually pretty intelligent, and will perform and also complete objectives.

You will get better it just a progressive thing since there are no crutches helping, no aim assist, no special perks and so on so it takes time and lots of it, not just 8 hours.
The bad thing about CS is the winning team finds it easier to keep winning because they get the choice of better equipmen because they have more money.

man this is the inspiration for the socom franchise (1-3)! from the recoil to map design to how the scope works while zoomed in...I Love It! game speed is nice (no run button).

I changed my settings so L1 will be for crouching rather cycling weapons, then left and right cycles previous and next. up is melee...still learning to control the recoil tho nut the AK is my favorite assault followed by the M4-90 semi auto shotty

No run button but there should be a walk button
Can be useful when you want to be quiet.
Despite what soem people say teach weapon has its own recoil and spread patterns.

You can walk. Just go to the Wireless Controller settings or w/e you use, and assign your own buttons.

Keep in mind Crouch is slower than walking and takes longer to get up to full running speed if and when you get into trouble.

Weapons with scopes are in the "rifles" section. I think the pic tells it best.

Zoom only works on the rifles with scopes no idea what button it is on the PS3/Xbox versions though.
The zoom button will however change firemode of some weapons that do not have a scope.

Right analog trigger (R3) activates scope and other weapon functions like burst-mode, automatic etc.
