I sort of dabbled into the thought in a comment on a link from our main page, but the idea has really started dwelling in my head. FFXIII-2 didn't really do the series any favors, and Square could benefit from the sheer fact that a sequel had the basic breakdown control scheme that'll be featured in Versus. So does anyone feel like "previewing" it in a XIII sequel would be a good idea, or would it water down the experience for the upcoming Versus title?

No, no, no and again no! Its good that VERSUS is a side title so they can experiment with these play styles..but mainline Final Fantasy titles should always have menu based battle systems.

^^ Fully agree. XIII has to do it's own thing while Versus does IT"S own thing.

Hate to jump on the bash bandwagon but I agree with them OP. But i'll say this, the KH battle system ain't so great. it's generic hack n slash crap. Im sure they've improved it here and there with new KH titles (i dont play them) but no the main series wouldn't benefit from that type of gameplay.
they've already ramped things with the command synergy system in XIII.

Like everyone else, no. If anything, they would be doing a lot of wrong to the XIII series to completely change the system they have been tweaking and implementing through two games. For the fans of XIII (I'm not one of them), it would be wrong to completely rewrite the battle system to mirror Versus, if anything it makes them look like they aren't confident in XIII's playstyle and panicked to appeal to gamers.
I agree with Dave that Versus gives them a chance to play around with some stuff and see if it works.

I don't fully agree with what you say, I love Kingdom Hearts...and I'm sure Versus will be awesome, can't wait for it. Just leave it for that and other future spinoffs.
Kingdom Hearts is far from generic hack n slash...that title for me goes to God of War which is why I hate that series so much. Kingdom Heart's has the RPG elements which makes it so much more..

I can't speak for the newer spinoff KH games because I hate that series now, but I completed KH1 and 2 and I can tell you yes they have RPG elements but the elements are barely needed to beat anything. The stats are meaningless. And the game will give you items to up certain stats, well who the hell else would you give them to other then Sora? And the 2nd game's AI is worse then the first one's.

I agree with Dave also,Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite franchises but XIII should have battle menu. Versus I hope has a battle system closest to Birth By Sleep LOVED the D-Link and Drive system
I had no intentions of becoming a leader. It is as a warrior how I shall be remembered, but these are hardly numbers worth dying for.

I hate to have to say it. I've finished every FF since 7 - except 12 and 13. I LOVED 12 btw.
I didn't finish because I was interrupted by the PS3 and never went back and finished it.
Need to do that.
13 is another story. I didn't finish 13 because point blank - I got tired of playing it.
And the thing that wore me out with 13 was the tired tired tired battle system.
Shocked me because it was supposed to be the game's strength.
My feelings are as follows:
Final Fantasy needs to grow up, get over itself, and move towards Mass Effect Combat.
It at least needs to move towards Dragon Age Style Combat. I play both games on PC using my Dual Shock 3. No need for excessive pause and play and menu navigation.
RPGs need to have combat systems closer to either Mass Effect or Dragon Age.
I'm done with menu based combat. If FF can't do this I'm done with FF.
And that breaks my heart a little.
Side note - I actually traded in FF 13 on PS3 and bought Dragon Age Origins on PC. I never regretted that.Last edited by Silo; 08-29-2012 at 11:29.

If it had a battle system like the very first trailer of FF13 it would be been AWESOME. Even if they only allowed 1 person in a battle at one time to allow this system.
