Holy shit. I hope as many as possible get relocated to other studios and the others get back on the feet asap
Eurogamer rumour has it that they were working on a WipEout for PS4 and a 'splinter cell' kinda game.
Wtf Sony.

Edit: From Kotaku

SIGH. That's business for you, I guess.

Sad, really sad. Unfortunately that's how things go. I think most of the people will be moved to Evolution.

This for me is one of the saddest bits of gaming news ive heard in a while. Wipeout has always been a game ive grown up with and loved, Shame to say the least
Cant think what to put in the box

Free to play wipeout coming in the future perhaps.
Wipeout has to be the slickest game ever created.

Perhaps an indication that all the losses over the years are finally catching up on SCE division. Restructuring of Cambridge Studio (leading to Guerrillas 2nd team/Killzone Liberation), BigBig, Zipper and now Studio Liverpool
With Bizarre Creations dissolved and now Studio Liverpool, as well the other hardships UK studios has suffered this generation, I wonder what this means for the future of UK game development.
So sad
. WipEout on the PS4 would have been glorious looking. No doubt about it
From Eurogamer:
UPDATE 2: Sony has contacted Eurogamer to stress that the only part of the Liverpool campus that is being closed is WWSE Team Liverpool.
The campus will still house FQA, GFPQA, XDev, CSG-Video, Localisation services and WWSE Finance, among other departments.
A Sony spokesperson also said the company will try to relocate those affected to other studios. "We will be looking to relocate the team members throughout the studios, but unfortunately some redundancies will be necessary and in those cases we will assist staff in any way we can."Last edited by Nitey; 08-22-2012 at 19:30.

Wow. No more Wipeout I guess.

As soon as I read the title I did one thing: *gasp*
I seriously can't believe I've just read this and now even Gamasutra and GamesIndustry.biz have reported it and I have to say that this one of the biggest saddest news to have ever hit the game development scene. The backlog and even the present games Psygnosis/Sony Liverpool had and currently has is one of the greatest in gaming history and now they're gone for good.

I cry when any title has "closes and Liverpool" in it lol.

This is scary shit right now..especially as I'm about to enter my final year at uni and I'm hoping to find work in the industry. It was already gonna be tough, but if more and more of these talented people are made redundant its gonna be even harder to find work !!
Trophy-licious!

horrible decision surely.
RIP Psygnosis.
I hope they can rebirth be independant screw sony.
Nice to post this
history Psygnosis so many memories especially us old timers from Atari ST, Amega and zx80 and comodore 64 days.
Games graphically moved on but they gameplay cant in some game sbeat what these clasic studios achieved with there refreshness in what they brought.
Sadly companies like sony dont respect the gaming industry anymore.

Still pissed.
Only one first party studio closure between 1994-2011. This is already the 3rd of 2012, not including the reshuffle of resources concering Cambridge Studio. Coincidentially, the last game those 3 studios made were launch window Vita titles...
Honestly not too fussed about BigBig and Zipper as much as I am about Studio Liverpool

Fuck free to play... I hate gimped versions of games. It works for MMOs but I can't see any good coming from F2P actual games...
And this news is damn depressing. Only since the PS3/PSP WipEouts have I begun to love the franchise... I hope someone else down the line can do it justice

This is expected as Sony losses continue to grow so will the cost cutting expect more studios to be closed that's reality.

Rollcage, Colony Wars......R.I.P
With all the Sony losses, bad media, low sales,....What do people expect?
If Sony were supported and people were buying their games left and right and this happened, then I would be shocked.
