Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has stated the percentage of paying players for its PC retail products and its free-to-play content is approximately the same. Speaking to GamesIndustry at Gamescom, Guillemot noted that only about five to seven percent of freemium players buy into content, which he said is the same as its retail PC product because they have a "93-95 percent piracy rate."
Guillemot also said that free-to-play games are normally cheaper to produce and distribute, since they use existing assets and avoid boxed distribution costs, but the product still needs to fit the audience.
"We also take content which we've developed in the past, graphics etc, and we can make cheaper games and improve them over time," he said. "What's very important is that we change the content and make it a better fit to the customer as time goes on."
Ubisoft has become notorious for staggered releases between its console and PC launches, along with blatantly lying about the topic of PC delays – and let's not even discuss the draconian DRM headaches.

"As long as there are dreamers who have the courage to pursue their dreams, the world will have heroes. And as long as there is a thirst to discover the unknown, there will be new stories to tell...and new adventures to be had."
People download the cracks because they cannto get the game to work using their $#@!ty jump through hoops crap DRM.
I own all splinter cell games legally but didnt want to use their $#@!ty Uplay crap which installs a firefox web browser plugin without even asking and that very same plugin has security flaws and was blocked by firefox anyway.
Its probably fixed now but doesnt give me confidence.
93-95 %? Yeah right, they're pulling those numbers out of their asses. If that's how bad piracy is, smaller gaming developers would have run out of business but hey look at CD Projekt. People like their games and even if they pirate it some are going to eventually buy it. CD Projekt actually has respect for gaming and the costumers that buy their products, no bull$#@! DRM. You hear me Ubisoft?
Ubisoft are the worst on the PC, they are just punishing their customers. I can't play Splinter Cell online without cracking it.
My name isn't a misspelled Nazi,god****.
He's full of $#@!. It's only 91%.

Additional thing I jsut found out.
I bought splinter cell conviction in a Steam sale but I have to instll uplay.
so I did.
So to play it I have to launch steam, click splinter cell which inturn launches Uplay then I click the splinter cell game and it then loads up.
So it got me thinking can I just use Uplay and bypass Steam?
I logged in and my games library is empty.
