PS3 vs Xbox 360: The Best 3rd Party Game Seller

Which console sells 3rd party games better? PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360?

It's late in the gen's cycle so now both consoles are affordable and everyone is aware of them what they bring.

So let's take two games, one from a Japanese Developer and one from a European developer (I think they're European), and see how they sell on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The two games we're going to use are Assassin's Creed III from Ubisoft and Resident Evil 6 from Capcom.

I'll try to remember and two months after both games release, we'll look at how they sold on both consoles.

One game is Japanese and the other is Western.

Which console do you think ACIII is going to sell better on? Which console do you think Resident Evil 6 will sell better on?

360, well, performance wise in many case. In some cases PS3 does better but its usually 360.. PS3 seems to get more exclusive content their releases which can be an advantage in other respects.

360, this is a no brainer. The quality of 3rd party has been better on it for the longest time save a few titles here and there. So you have console exclusive owner buying and dual dual console owner who are looking for the better version, and often the exclusive/timed exclusive DLC also jumping on the 360 side of the software sales.

360 definitely. Except for some rare cases 3rd party games usually look and/or play better on the 360 and 360 gets more timed exclusive DLC on alot of the big 3rd party games like Skyrim and COD for example. So 360 has basically become the go to console for 3rd party games.

Pretty much. Their promoting of 3rd party games and times DLC is cheaper than making exclusives...

In my opinion, PS3 outsells the Xbox 360 when it comes to exclusives while the Xbox 360 sells more multiplatform titles (i.e. Call of Duty).

Really? The only PS3 exclusive that has sales up there at or above certain 360 exclusives would be GT5 and UC3. Even Sony admitted 360 exclusives sell more. Now if youre putting all the PS3 exclusives into one big sales number and saying PS3 sells more exclusives overall then I could see Sony winning that since Sony has more big retail exclusives than MS.

Starved? How so? 360 gamers have plenty of great games to play and I seriously doubt that they really care which ones are exclusive and which ones aren't. lol And not all of Sony's exclusives have been AAA classics as far as that goes. lol

In terms of the OP RE6 will definitely sell more on PS3 in Japan... Probably overall too... Assassins is a hard one, I don't even know how much they sell in Japan but worldwide numbers should be pretty close right?

i'd say in the two most important countries of UK/USA that it would be 360.

Of interest though, the 360 version of RE5 outsold the PS3 version in the U.S., but the 360 version trailed in Europe (and of course Japan).

Resident Evil 6 will easily sell more copies on the PS3. RE is a PlayStation franchise at heart. Just like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill to name a few others. They'll always be supported by PS gamers first and foremost.
