Well I just sold my 360 and bought an 80gb ps3 two days ago. Last night it died with a ylod I am going to follow the gilksky guide and reflow it, just wondering if I should flux the bga's too even if it is the first time doing the reflow. Seems logical that adding flux will strengthen the solder's bond. Is this right, or should I just let the built in flux do its thing?

btw, I loved it right up until it went kaput on me... was deep into black ops for a few hrs. Havent even gotten to try mw3 or gt5 (with the wheel i got with the ps3) yet!! This is not the best intorduction into the ps world

There are very few/no differences between the consoles AFAIK. The new super slim loads the discs manually as opposed to sending it out mechanicaly. Other than that, the slim and the super slim are the same.

Thanks! That's good to know then that they are mostly just different HDD storage sizes. Makes shopping more convenient that way

Hello all PS3'ers,

I need a little techinical help with the PS3 Super Slim.

I need to create a mounting for the device so i can hide it behind my TV. I do not yet have a device but was wondering if anyone could supply me with an image of the underside of the device. If anyone is feeling super generous a techincal outline of where the case screws are located would be super awesome.

If anyone could help it would be greatly aprechiated.

Hello everyone,

I am having issues playing COD black Ops II in 3d. I have played motor storm so I know the 3d works on the PS3 3d display. Does anybody know if COD is compatible? Is there a special way I have to set up the TV in order for this to work?

Which option did you choose and what is the TV model you're using?

I enabled the 3d in the game and on the TV. The TV is the PS3 3D display.

I'm gonna have to pick up that tv to do some tests, but for now I'll get it done with my Vizio 3d tv, active shutter... I'll let you know when I'm done.

I am new to the PS3. I have been a long time xbox user, but a ps3 was given to me recently. I guess it had been in the closet for a long time. It is the old 80GB chrome style with the 4 USB ports and the SD card slots. It also is Version 3.15 and it still has the "install other OS" option. I want to start using it for myself, but don't know enough about the PS3 scene or the status of mods and whatnot. I would like to update it to a current version so that I can play BD movies and use the newer features, however, I would like to know if I should take advantage of the fact that this unit is still running the older firmware. Are there just as many opportunities on the newer FW versions or are they pretty locked down now?

Hi there PS3 community I have a question for those of you who have bought and sold 80gb units recently.

My brother in law recently offered to sell me his 80gb PS3 CECHK01 with 2 wireless controllers and the wireless keyboard. I don't think any games are included. He told me to make an offer but, I have no idea what a fair price would be. I do know that the 80gb version has not been produced for a while and that prices on Ebay are all over the place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Guys, played the Dead Space 3 demo today but while the video introduction was on my PS3 shut down and flashed red, should I be worried?
The system is cold and it switched back on and I finished the demo but I've never had that before, I've had a YLOD before
but not a random shut down

I've never had any such experiences (250gb slim model) so I may not be of help. I know I'd be worried if that happened to me (the red light is intimidating)

It is intimidating, I have a 60gb model and obviously this ain't the first time, but the system sounds healthy ( that corrupt data check seems to do its job, as I've had less problems since it was introduced )
hopefully it was just a fault regarding the data being read of the HDD during that video bit in the demo which made it shut down.....hopefully
I have continuous play ( well they took the money for it last month) so I am covered
But a 640gb HDD is a bitch to restore and back-up.
