Ok so I do not know much about building a desktop. I know I want http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115070 or AMD equivalent., and an Nvidia 560ti. From there I am clueless. Ram around 8gb, hard drive 500gb will honestly do but meh go 1tb if enough. Price 800-1000. Website Newegg.com. Go and much thanks for helping.
What are you going to be doing with the machine? It is built around Guild Wars 2. I want to play it max settings with everything on and still pull good FPS.
What games will you typically be playing?GW2
What resolution will you be playing at? 1920x1080

That's a very expensive CPU.. Another option would be to get a lower clocked i7, or even lower locked i5, and overclock it.
It's hard to get below $1000 without going cheap on something else. The subtotal here is $1027.92. I'm sure others can make better suggestions.

If mainly for gaming, skip i7 and just get i5, use the extra money saved for a better GPU.
This is a build that I have in my shopping cart, wishing I could press "order" lol.
That GPU in particular is a really good deal.

It has almost 670 level performance

If you like the minimalistic look like the Lian Li I reccomend either of these cases, I have the Silencio 550.
Silenci0 550

Silencio 650 (slightly bigger than 550)

Looks like Neweg doesnt do either case for some reason.Last edited by keefy; 08-28-2012 at 16:55.

Only problem I see here is you got an Ivy Bridge cpu and that motherboard isn't compatible out of the box with it. You'll need a SB to update it first...
Other than that I like your build. Should note he could save a bit by buying the ati 7850 and overclocking it.
BTW I'm surprised nobody asked him some setup questions like:
What are you going to be doing with the machine?
What games will you typically be playing?
What resolution will you be playing at?
etc etc...

Put answers in op.
I like Shibby setup to only I replace the mother board with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130645 as you said it wasn't compatible, and video card with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127696 because I just like nvidia better.

Sounds like you know what you want now. I'd say that setup would manhandle GW2 at 1080 rez.
(Personally I'd pick a different case as well, but that's just my personal taste. I just pulled together all my parts today for a new build. Grabbed me a Fractal Designs R4 Black Pearl case, I'm loving the simple look of it.)
Best of luck!

Thought it was compatible, my mistake. Easy fix.
As far as asking what he wanted to do with it, I assumed if he was going to have a budget of 800-1000 for a custom PC build, he was going for a pretty serious gaming rig.Last edited by Shibby; 08-31-2012 at 21:22.

Absolutely easy fix. I just didn't want him to mistakenly pull the trigger and order all that just to find out he needs a SB to get his IB processor to post. Better safe than sorry right?
Also fair enough, but a budget is a budget, and money can be wasted on buying stuff you'll never notice nor use. Like a 6.0gb hdd.

$160 Intel Core i5 2500K
$95 Biostar TZ77A LGA 1155 Z77
$220 HIS Radeon HD 7850
$38 Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1333
$50 OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD
$70 WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7,200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s
$72 Corsair Builder Series 600 Watt
$20 ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 PCI Sound Card
$16 Samsung 22X DVDRW Burner
$25 Diablotek Legend Mid Tower
$8 Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
Total
$774 after rebate - before taxes
***Some thoughts on other peoples builds***
first off spending over $100 for a case? F that, get a cheap good looking one put the money on hardware NZXT, BitFenix, DiabloTek are well budget decent quality cases
I really don't see the point in going crazy with the Video Card right now with developers gearing up for next gen engines you could really get by with a 6850/ 560 for almost every game with High settings and over 60 frames, then make the jump for $400 card when the new games launch.
Why no SSD on your builds? Its a must have, and after having one you would never want just a single slow HDD ever again
No sound card? Yes it makes a difference. Grab some nice Headphones and thank me later.

Because an SSD is expensive, especially with a budget. A small SSD dedicated to the OS is a good idea though, if you're willing to spend a little extra money.
Cheaper cases usually skimp on ventilation, but the case is not as vital of a recommendation. Get what you like. Mid towers are fine, Full size is a waste.
If you're gonna get the expensive card eventually, better to just get it now. A 7950 (At $320 is a great deal) will run virtually every game at ultra-max settings for the next few years. 7850 is a great option too. I don't know enough about nVidia cards to recommend them as alternatives, so I'm not going to try to talk out of my ass about them, but I generally believe them to be more expensive for roughly similar, maybe slightly better, performance. I also don't like recommending cards from the previous series. Better to get the smaller chip from the newer series that has a similar lever of performance, same price.Last edited by Shibby; 09-01-2012 at 11:52.

You should probably ask the guy if he has a Microcenter near him first, considering they don't ship cpu's (trust me on that one, I'm pretty upset I don't have one near me)
Cheap cases...meh. I'd rather buy a nice case I can use through several builds that has good cooling or is exceptionally quiet. I do like NZXT and BitFenix's cheaper cases, they are pretty solid. That said if you do your homework you get what you pay for. An ssd is nice, but if I was budget limited I'd rather spend more on a nice case than an SSD that I could just add later when funds allow.
And a Biostar motherboard? Really? Junk. After RMA'ing one 3 times just to have each one fail I will never ever recommend nor use one again. Same goes for ECS, though I hear they're both getting better I just can't do it. Spend the extra $35 and get a better brand.
Sorry. Not trying to offend you or come off prickish. Your build is pretty nice I like most of the parts.
I'd replace that Caviar blue drive with a Samsung Spinpoint (no point in spending extra on a 6GB drive when HDD's can't even saturate the 3GB bus.
Sound cards are very nice to have if you're using headphones (often they're too quiet without one)
That Xonar is pretty nice (I'm an Auzentech guy myself) and is a solid suggestion.

I was about to respond pretty much the same way.
You can only get at the CPU at that price if you go into the store
It's a good deal though.
Biostar is garbage, and I also have had bad luck with MSI
I've been sticking with ASUS these days.
Also, that case doesn't come with any fans.

Yeah if you got a MC store near you it's the way to go for sure, just wish all of us had that!
I'd use MSI for my budget builds, but nothing I'd use personally. Right now I'm a big fan of Gigabyte and ASRock boards. Freaking solid. ASUS are good, but I always find them to be a bit 'bland' I suppose.

Using a Cheap Asus board right nowbad thing is I can only use 4 of the 6 SATA ports due to their position under the GPU there is no way to get even the lower profile 90 degree elbow SATA connectors in there.
Never had that issue with Gigabyte.

Asus and Asrock are normally my go to boards
I've always hated the Gigabyte bios settings setup
always wanted to try EVGA but have never bought anything from them

I have the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 Mobo which is great and has Dual Bios which is Easy to use ,plus you can Charge your phone while The PC is off which I like
I also have a EVGA Superclocked GTX570HD Card which is also great and has great Utilities & Support from EVGA I highly recommend their Cards.

Well...Bios screens are a pretty little thing in the grand scheme of things

I've yet to have one gigabyte board fail on me, and they're layouts are usually pretty spot on. I am on a definite ASRock kick right now though, last two builds I did were with a b75m and a z77 pro3. SOLID boards no doubt!
EVGA is a solid company! I'd put their products up against ASRock/ASUS/Gigabyte anyday. My only complaint about them is they are a little bit pricier than the competition typically.
I happen to know a couple guys that are EVGA resellers. They typically only sell high end stuff but they sell it a bit cheaper than any store and no tax. So if you happen to be in the San Diego area and want a GTX690 for about $950 straight up lemme know I'll send you their way.

UK doesnt get such discounts
. Cheapest 690 is £800 which equates to using direct conversions over 1200 bux.
But still nearly 1000 on a card is mmore that I would want to pay.
Most I ever paid for a graphics card is £350 back in 2005 since then I have not paid more than £150Last edited by keefy; 09-03-2012 at 23:20.
