http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012...able-conditionA fearless Manhattan cop jumped in the Hudson River and battled through the currents Thursday to rescue an apparently suicidal woman from the unforgiving water.
Emergency Services Unit Det. Darren McNamara was able to drag the still conscious woman to shore where Det. Anthony Selvaggi pulled them both out of the drink, sources said.
The 42-year-old woman, who hails from New Jersey, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injures. She was in stable condition and expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, sources said.
The drama began around 10 a.m. when McNamara’s ESU truck responded to reports of a woman in the river.
A caller told cops that a female driver cut him off as they were heading south on the Henry Hudson Parkway, roared down the 96th Street exit — and headed straight for the water.
When cops got there, they found a dark-colored Toyota Camry stopped by the guardrail — and teetering into the water.
That’s when McNamara saw the woman in the river, about 100 feet from shore — and leaped into the water to get her.
The woman, whose name was not made available, was apparently despondent “over family issues,” a source said.
McNamara, 37, and Selvaggi, 41, both joined the NYPD on Aug. 31, 1998.
Nice to see a Cop willing to jump in the river to save the girl.

Fair play to him! 100ft isn't an easy distance to swim whilst dragging someone else.
Is this the same river that the plane crash landed into?I Like Games.

Why is it that the bad cop threads are the most popular while the good cop threads get the least attention?.

Every cop takes an oath to protect the people but there are others that go above and beyond to save them. These are the heroes we look up to.
