I need some help with bad neighbors

I have a problem, a problem so big I can't even relax in my own apartment. I currently have a headache right now in the middle of my forehead.

So I've been living here in this apartment for about 4-5 months. I moved here to go to college here. So classes have started and I seem to be going pretty good. I have taken my first tests and grades and have A's and B's.

So the apartment is really a house that has been sectioned off, a duplex. A woman and her son live in the house in the other section. Here's the problem.

Her son and me are okay or were okay. I've done nothing but be nice to them and want to build a relationship with them but apparently the mother doesn't like me and she doesn't even want her son around me or "bothering" me or something.

What the problem is, her spare bedroom is joined to my living room by the wall. She, not her son, is making comments through the wall and she's clearly talking about me using my name and everything. It's really rude and degrading comments.

My bathroom is close to her back porch and I could hear her one night in my bathroom. An ill advised move, I looked through my bathroom window and saw her or what definitely looks like her standing on her back porch.

So now, I try to always keep my tv on, have to turn on that loud fan in my bathroom, and have to go to other rooms to talk on the phone and even don't feel real comfortable on the phone in my apartment.

I rented this apartment because the landlord told me it was quiet, a good neighborhood, and the neighbors were nice and not noisy, and because it was close to the college. On the flip side, if anything ever happens, I'll be the first to go because she's rented longer and she pays the most rent.

I'm doing my best not to hear her, but it's really hard not to hear her. When I come out the bathroom, I can still hear her.

I don't know what to do. I'm sick of having headaches and I'm sick not being able to relax or watch tv or study without dealing with this.

What should I do? Should I go over and talk to her about it and maybe it's a misunderstanding? Should I call the landlord and tell him what's going on?

I don't know what to do.

You need to knock on her door and let her know you do not appreciate her talking about you. Let her know you can hear everything. You need to tell her, "You do not need to like me, but you WILL respect me!"

Tell her to take her opinion and shove it back into the deepest depths of her whore of a mouth. Seriously, if it really is that bad don't stand for it. If your not a fan of dealing with the issue head on then be passive-aggressive and just turn up your music whenever you hear her, she'll get the hint.

Just talk to her & ask if there is a reason why she don't like you & let her know that you're not there to be talked about you're just trying to have a peaceful place to stay while you go to school. she might respect that or she might get worse but it's a chance you have to take. no leaving little notes like a punk neither.

Hah!. Sorry to disappoint you but this is nothing. The place we used to live in when I was younger was much, much worse!. Cops came into the apartment property regularly, especially at night - I would always see the lights flash into our living room(Which was cool actually since we pretended that they were aliens) - only to find out that they were looking for someone out there, which was almost always >_> Some nights you would hear infants cry their lungs out every other hour!, other times we would hear people having sex. I haven't even gotten to the times our old truck was broken into.

It was like that for years until we moved into a home. So far our neighbors haven't given us any trouble but what you're experiencing is nothing. I strongly advice you to go and speak with her, ask her what her problem is.

If I lived in your situation Black Wolf, I would just play music loudly enough to annoy the neighbor, then if they bring it up, respond with "Well I don't like being talked about behind my back, if you got something to say, just get it over with."

I'd take talking about me over music any day, my attached neighbour blares there music so loud I can hear it through the walls. You'd think when you hit your 40s you'd grow out of that.. or wouldnt party with your 20-something year old cousins.

Confront her but be cordial and respectful about it. Jot down what you hear so that if she denies it, you can read back to her what she's said.

This. In fact... do nothing else but this. Some of these suggestions are silly.

Okay, I went over like Lethal suggested and she didn't have time to talk. I don't want to go into details, but it has something to do with her family and Hurricane or Tropical Storm Isaac.

I'm beginning to think it's not her or her son. I will go into detail about why.

I've never had or suspected any trouble with her or her son until now. BUT, I have trouble with these other neighbors in this white house. When I was interacting with the lady and her son and I first moved her, the lady told me the neighbors in the white house can be pretty rowdy. I learned that first hand.

The first time I started having trouble with them is them partying and drinking and being loud outside. This wasn't at 8 p.m., this wasn't at 10 p.m., this was all the way into 2 a.m. in the morning. So at first I didn't say anything because I was hoping it would simmer down. This was in the summer, toward July 4th. So this continued I got tired of going to appointments dog tired and waking up later in the day, so I politely walked over to the edge of my rental property and asked them as nice as possible to keep it down. I also suspect, but don't know, that they could be responsible for my mail box and if they're the ones knocking on my door and running away.


It worked! I was able to sleep at night. Then, the light problem started.

At one point, someone in their direction was shining a light through my window into my apartment. Called the police and complained and it stopped. They also have a really bright outside light without a covering on it. What I mean by covering is people have a bowl shaped covering over their outside light. At one point, what looked like headlights was shining into my apartment and lighting it up good in the middle of the night. I got tired of that and talked to the police. Turns out the police can't do anything about it and all they saw was the outside light. So I learned something and had made a mistake. The police officer told me how to adapt to it so I put black garbage bags behind my blinds. It's worked perfectly. My apartment is pitch black at night and I can sleep.


I haven't had any more problems out of them that I know for sure, until supposedly yesterday.

Right after I went over to the lady and asked could I speak to her about something, I went back to my apartment. A few minutes later, while I was watching South Carolina beat Vanderbilt, someone knocked on my door once and didn't knock anymore so I didn't answer it. Then, that's when I heard this loud screaming. Someone was literally screaming that they absolutely hated me and they repeated some of the conversation I had with the lady.


This is why I think it wasn't her or her son with this loud outburst.

1. It wasn't her son because her son wasn't even around. Her son and a relative had went somewhere on bike.
2. It wasn't her because she was on the phone and she doesn't sound like that, not even when she yells.


My instincts are actually telling me that these people in this white house could be behind the people talking about me. However, I could be wrong and it could be her son. The track record says it's the people in the white house.

By the way, my mailbox got damaged again right after I put up the garbage sacks. Could be coincedence, maybe not. So yeah, the member who said in the mailbox thread it would happen again was right. I went on and got a Post Office box.

The police can supply that type of thing in the UK and I guess they do in USA too.

Not everyone here is bad, but you do have some rough people here. It's like in every state.

The crazy thing is, I don't even know these people. Yet these people somehow know my name.

One thing I do know for sure..making amends, coming to terms or trying to befriend everyone that you feel doesn't like you WILL make you mad. Most people are crappy in general and not worth your time. Do 'you' love...
