Every time Gamestop removes another aged system's games from its shelves, we die a little bit inside. Not that older games are particularly cheap at the stores, but it's often better than shopping on eBay.
Now Gamestop CEO Paul Raines has revealed to Polygon in an interview at the first ever Gamestop Expo that the company is considering selling "vintage" games on their website. Apparently when old PS1 and N64 games go off the market at Gamestop, they don't just get thrown away.
"We've got them," Raines said. We're picturing a warehouse like in Raiders of the Lost Ark. "We think there's a vintage sales opportunity, so we're accumulating some inventory. It's a big idea, and there's a few problems with it. The first one is sourcing the product, the condition, the refurbishment, all that stuff. But there's a customer for it. And we're working on some stuff we haven't announced yet.
"If you go to eBay and look at all of the gaming stuff that's on there, it's unbelievable. Collector's stuff. We've got to be in that business. We will be."
He wants to make Gamestop cool again, apparently: "We've got to be a destination for gamers where, for cool stuff for gaming, you've got to go to Gamestop," he said.

The local play N trade by my house sells retro consoles that play NES, SNES, and Genesis games they also sell original cartridges as well. The console go for about 40 bucks give or take. I've seen the games range from 5 to 15 bucks

We already have Vintage Stock for all of our vintage games. Gamestop needs to just stick with current games.

Oh ok I don't have on of those near me just play N trade they sell new games and accessories however they don't sell new consoles just retro consoles and games. As a person who works in video games sales, I think this could be a BIG hit. There is a HUGE market for Retro games, shirts, and other merchandise. But it would sell better in stores than online but customer HAVE to know that you sell it otherwise they would never come to GameStop looking for retro because GameStop is known for current gen.
