Okay, so everyone can vote for ten movies, the ten best movies ever in their opinion, and at some point in the future I'll tally everything up and make a definitive list a la Sight & Sound magazine. So for me, I'm only doing one film per director, so you won't see any directorial repeats.
Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese | 1976)
The Godfather (Francis Ford Coppola | 1972)
8½ (Federico Fellini | 1963)
Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino | 1994)
Citizen Kane (Orson Welles | 1941)
Sunset Boulevard (Billy Wilder | 1950)
2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick | 1968)
Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock | 1958)
Annie Hall (Woody Allen | 1977)
Casablanca (Michael Curtiz | 1943)
How about you guys?

I'm a little disappointed that I prefer TRF's list more than yours, and I generally agree with you more.
Note to everyone: Listing any movie past 2005, I will hurt you. Not that there isn't great movies, but none that should objectively be considered Best in context to "all time."
Blade Runner
2001: A Space Odyssey
Indiana Jones
Back to the Future
Star Wars: Originals
The Bourne Identity
LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
Memento
Jurassic Park
Pulp Fiction (I need to put Quentin in there somewhere)
Se7en (for Fincher and the movie)
A Clockwork Orange
Aladdin
The Lion King
Akira
Gladiator
A few of those are childhood favorites. They deserve to mentioned for shaping me and giving me some great memories. That's what a great movie does, right?

This is completely impossible..out of the hundreds (probably thousands) of movies I have seen over the years. There is too much choice. Same as choosing your favorite song.
Trophy-licious!

With all due respect, you're in no position to tell others what movies they shouldn't add to their top ten lists. If I wanted to impress you, I'd probably namedrop Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa or some other world-renowned director with one of their movies but at the end of the day, I really don't care.
A few of the movies I listed are like that. Gladiator was a movie I first watched when I was younger with my dad. Cloverfield was the first real movie that I followed and still loved after seeing it in theaters. The rest I just really enjoyed.A few of those are childhood favorites. They deserve to mentioned for shaping me and giving me some great memories. That's what a great movie does, right?Last edited by Blacksite; 09-03-2012 at 19:10.

I find it really sad when people list recent action films that are entertaining to an extent but not at all what cinema should be known for. i.e Transformers, expendables, avengers... and to be frank, district 9 and inception. District 9 just looks great because every other alien film is shit. Inception is not Nolan's masterpiece, it's just a better action film than most blockbusters.
Btw, I'm not seriously coming down on you... this is a forum, consider it more of a debate.

Not bothering to name directors because it doesnt matter a good film is a good film regardless of who directed or starred in it.
Die Hard (the first one which is over 20 years old is it old enough?)
Shawshank redemption
Rear window
Gladiator
Dial M for murder
two hands
The Naked gun
Bullitt
Do me a favour when you watch bullitt count the number of times you see a green beetle car.
Aslo why in every American movie is there always either a VW car or a Volvo?Last edited by keefy; 09-03-2012 at 23:29.

Because people have different opinions and might value newer movies higher than some of the older classics. Only because you're stuck in the past doesn't mean that newer generations are forbidden to nominate their favourites as the best movies out there.
This cliché of movies supposedly not coming close to their 1960s counterparts is just mind-blowingly retarded.

cbf writing directors & years, but these are my top 11 ( I couldn't get rid of one) favourite movies of all time and in no particular order:
Pulp Fiction
Ponyo
Blade Runner
Pan's Labyrinth
Star Wars (Episode IV: A New Hope)
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Princess Mononoke
The Crow
Alien
Underworld
The Godfather Part II
Also...we all have different tastes and I don't see how every individual can objectively pick from all of the movies that ever existed.. of course there will be a lot of recent movies in our top 10 lists. Lets just play nice and share opinions without criticizing other peoples choices
