Alright, so my initial reaction was more of an emotional one rather than thought out.

I may seem stuck in the past from what I said, but the difference is I study it. I think that many people on this forum would agree that today's Hollywood is remakes and adaptations. Most of the blockbusters/mainstream entertainment is designed to sell like a product rather than be what cinema originally intended... storytelling. That's my gripe with people these days claiming the last action movie they saw was one of the best films ever. Like I said before, it's not that those movies aren't entertaining but they aren't nearly the caliber of film audiences use to get. Nowadays its a lot of injecting action or name talent to sell the movie.

I don't see the point in debating personal favorites. While it's true that most movies nowadays aren't what they used to be, I don't believe any of the movies I listed fall into the category of Transformers-esque blockbusters.

At the end of the day, movies are about entertaining your audience and you can do that in a number of different ways. Reading through the same list of movies citing Jurassic Park or Star Wars gets tiresome. Not saying they're bad movies but there's nothing wrong with a little variety.

I agree with variety. That's half the reason my list is nearly twice as long, compiling from others as well. However, you mention citing certain movies gets tiresome... I'm a bit tired of the praise of certain movies people listed, including yourself. In the context of this thread anyway.

This is why I love movies and also why I hate them.
    Debating movies is fun.
But a comment like yours about not listing anything after 2007 is ridiculous. Especially when you listed a Bourne movie, the worst LOTR movie, Jurassic Park, and Aladdin! And saying The Star Wars originals, when everyone knows that Empire is the only truly great one.

I love debating movies. So far though, I don't think I've seen a bad list. Sure, I've seen plenty of movies on these lists that I wouldn't put anywhere near the top ten, but I don't think any of you picked bad movies. I'm impressed.

    EDIT:

At this point, I've pretty much retracted the 2005 guideline, although I can't think of any worth mentioning. The Bourne Identity was 2003.

The Fellowship of the Ring had a true three-act storyline and some of the best moments of the trilogy. Jurassic Park was a huge leap in CGI in terms of the technology and telling a story with it, especially in a way no one thought possible at the time. Aladdin is a childhood favorite, and one of Robin Williams best. Star Wars is great for its overall arc.

I think the reason many people prefer Fellowship is because the characters are together, so it's one linear narrative throughout, instead of switching between Frodo & Co, Aragorn & Co, Merry & Co, etc.

It's more involving and makes for much better pacing. Besides, I just think the theatrical version of Fellowship is perfectly executed from beginning to end.

You don't even need a credit card. Paypal is using your ordinary bank account just like when buy things off Amazon for example.

And here I thought online shopping was the one thing to go in this day and age...
