Yeah Hatsune Miku is huge in Japan, though I didn't expect this much of a bump for Vita, gonna check the JP Store later see how it's doing on there.

Yeah. Didn't this come out as a white special edition bundle I assume that is also a reason for the bump as well?

Yeah hopefully an FF:KH edition would be sweet..if there ever is one. Hell even different colors with a memory stick would do well.

Next week it'll be back to normal lol

This proves that it needs games though, not so much a price drop.

Vita sold well when it sold a Japanese game people care about + bundle. Shocking.

Like others here, it was surprising seeing the Vita on top with such good numbers for the week. Hopefully Sony will finally continue this trend.

I don't know why people are surprised for.The 3DS only sells because it appeals to casuals. So obviously the Vita would sell well with a casual game. Its sad that people in Japan (and a lot in the West) only care about casual games. Gravity Daze should have spiked the Vita much more than this rhythm game. The days of quality games selling are over.

Vita's first time on top in Japan

After months of being bested by its predecessor and Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita has finally topped the Japanese hardware charts thanks to the arrival of SEGA’s Hatsune Miku Project Diva f.

Sony’s high-powered pocket brick sold just north of 50,000 units, beating out the 3DS LL and its standard cousin, plus of course PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable.

In terms of software, SEGA’s rhythm title moved a whopping 159,592 units on its debut, with its nearest competitor, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers for 3DS, shifting 69,365 units.

This marks a significant milestone for PS Vita, which has traditionally struggled to maintain momentum since launching in Japan last December.

Check out the full hardware and software charts below.

    - - - - -

[PSV] Hatsune Miku Project Diva f (Sega, 08/30/12) – 159,592 (New)

Ahh ok, not the first time... I'm just tha messenger. I don't mind who gets credit for the growth, but the bigger the better regarding developer/publisher interest in Vita.

    I agree
I still haven't picked up Gravity Rush yet but I will probably around the start of next year.. I've just been busy with other games on my Vita like MGS:HD and FF7 along with games on my PS3 from PSN+ and BF3 then I got quite a big selection of games to buy for PS3/Vita in the upcoming months...

I'm going to be one busy gamer.

Combine the 3ds still outsold the vita however if they can maintain this vita can make a serious run!

To be fair, the 3DS and the 3DS XL were counted separately in this article to create the illusion that the Vita was the biggest selling system. It's unfair to count the 3DS and 3DS XL separately in a comparison such as this because they play the same games.

*Disclaimer: No fanatics, I own a Vita, 15 Vita games, and I sold my 3DS a long time ago*

    Japan continues to amaze me.

There's games like Uncharted and no one moves a damn finger but as soon as a rhythm game hits the floor that goes by the incredible name of 'Hatsune Miku Project Diva f' people camp in front of the store to play it first.

I'd love to experience the world through the eyes of a Japanese for just one day, lol.
