PS3 Reveal of Final Fantasy XIV Scheduled for mid-October!

One of my most eagerly anticipated games this year! We NEED a good fantasy MMORPG on consoles much like Guild Wars 2 is on PC.

Square Enix has said we'll be treated to our first glimpse of the elusive PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV next month.

We were surprised when Square promised the PS3 version for a 2012 release (hell, we're shocked its still coming at all), and now producer Naoki Yoshida has said the first PS3 screenshots and info for the revived MMO, now subtitled 'A Realm Reborn', will be released next month.



"We'll be releasing the initial information [on the PS3 version] around mid-October," Yoshida told fans in a recent online chat session. "I believe we'll have screenshots first, but please hang in there," he added (thanks Siliconera).

According to its announcement last year, Square will release the PS3 version of FFXIV between October and December of 2012. To coincide with the release there will be a play-for-free period for the game as well as a mandatory client update for PC users.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. Unless that play for free period is just for starters and then they'll start charging a fee.

Hopefully there's a beta or something cause I really need to try this out first.

Yes, it will have a monthly fee. However, you will be granted an initial testing period where you don't have to pay anything apart from the actual game itself.

They should adopt the model when they limit your level cap if you don't pay. Atleast that way people can keep playing and it will probably increase their revenue since more people can try it

I disagree. I think it should be like Guild Wars 2. You pay for the game and thas it. There is micro transactions but they are hardly necessary and aren't pay to win

It's about time. I've been waiting for Final Fantasy XIV on the PS3 forever now.

I'm still playing FFXI. I doubt this will pull me away but i'll give it a shot.

For those wondering if there will be a monthly fee, I'm pretty sure there will be a monthly fee because I did some research and when XIV first came out on PC there was 30, 90 & 180 days fee. If this is the case, I'm hoping the game is free, I sure won't spend $60 on just the game.

I heard they made FFXIV free to play on the PC because of all the problems they were having. No idea if they started charging again.

If it's ready for a PS3 release i'd assume there would be a monthly fee. They need to make money eventually.

The free trial period which was supposed to be 1 month kept getting extended and wound up being free for roughly the first year. They started charging I believe it was in Feb.
I had such high expectations for XIV but it sucked big time and Square knew it. That's why they fired EVeRYONE and hired a whole new staff to try and sort the crap out. Hopefully they figured something out....
I wonder what happens to all my levels after the 2.0 reboot if I grab this on the PS3. Havnt rouched the game since dec/jan.

Good job on Square on giving the project a new team it looks as though its paying off too. Also,i think they said that you do get to keep your character stats..or maybe that was something they said about importing things from FFXI? Dont hold me to that

Still if there's a free initial period, as much as I may want to give this game a try I am not willing to pay $60 for a game that I'll probably just be able to play for free for like 30 days. Only reason I don't like MMORPG games, not too fond of the monthly fees.
