Sony Unveils New PS3 Model

Sony today unveiled a new PS3 model at its pre-Tokyo Game Show briefing today in Japan. The new PS3 will have a new body and design, approximately 20 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the current PS3.

The new PS3 will be available in 250GB and 500GB versions, in both black and white colours. The black model will be released on October 4, while the white model will be released on November 22.

Sony revealed the new 250GB PS3 will be available on September 25 in North America for US$269.99 as part of a limited edition bundle featuring Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Game of the Year edition, and a voucher for more than US$30 worth of bonus digital content for the title Dust 514.

The new 500GB PS3 will be available in North America in a limited edition Assassin's Creed III bundle on October 30. Sony did not reveal US or Japanese pricing for this model.

The PAL versions of the two new PS3 models is slightly different: while the 500GB version will be identical, the version replacing the current 250GB model will come as a 12GB flash memory model. Users who buy this model will be able to upgrade to a HDD, but will lose the 12GB as internal storage when they do. This version of the new PS3 will be available in Europe and Australasia. The 12GB flash memory PS3 model will be released on September 27 in Australia for AU$300, and on October 12 in Europe for €229. The NA bundle seems like a good deal for 250 I was hoping for a 149.99 price but wishful thinking on my part how do you load the game with the SS PS3?

Looks pretty nice. However the price is not really that impressive and i think its time to advance to PS4 instead of updating PS3. I personally think that this update was unnecessary as the previous slim is just fine.

Straight coversion on exchange rates means its possible for UK people to buy the 12GB + 500GB drive fro cheaper than what Sony want for their 500GB model.

Looks pretty nice. However the price is not really that impressive and i think its time to advance to PS4 instead of updating PS3. I personally think that this update was unnecessary as the previous slim is just fine.

It would have made more immediate sense to include smaller harddrives, while lowering the price. But perhaps Sony feel they can increase sales via increased value. They usually like to take the value approach, so I'm not too surprised.

I think I'll get that Uncharted bundle its looking nice. A game,250gb,30 day plus,and 30 bucks for Dust? That sounds better than buying it separately. I like that.

I don't know how I feel about that. That guy in the vid slighly dropped it and it opened. Yeah i know you won't be holding it while playing. Looks really sensitive and more prown to damage. Gonna give it some more thought.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I think that slide open top is going to be motorized. If you notice on the front of the console there is an eject button (why else would they put that), and the fact that the slip open part has no lip or anything to grab onto is making me think this thing is motorized...any thoughts?

so sony made a new 1 they make us download updates like the 4.25 which breaking alot of people ps3 and sony want them to buy the new 1 if and when i updates 4.25 if it breaks my ps3 im not buy a new 1 anyways Respect im hoping off to eat a carrot and groom myself

This. Why Why oh why haven't Sony decided to release the only console that can work as a Blueray player without a HDMI? Madness. They just don't get it.


The console looks all good from where I am. It's smaller and plays games. What else do you want.
Mind you, I'm not someone who cares about how the console looks because mine are hidden away

Talking with someone else online they mentioned that maybe the door is spring loaded so when you press that eject button the springs pop the sliding door open, which would make sense to me.

Maybe the biggest change is the internals, to sve Sony money, top loader is obviously a big saving, jst a few springs and clips ratehr than motors and sensors.

Is it just me or does nobody else see how you would upgrade the HDD on the new slim? I hope Sony didn't get rid of that because if so I'm hoping that there's an older Slim around by the time I want to get a PS3 again.
