Probably a good idea. Though I have been to a similar thread elsewhere and had no problems loading the page. I only have a 12mb connection too.

I think it depends from person to person. For me, embedded videos and GIFs are fairly slow. Could depend on the platform too, as Mac isn't exactly the most flash-friendly.
