    Create a Ps3 game

As a little side project im doing just to keep me busy when im bored, Im desiging/creating my own video game that I would like to see on next gen consoles. Its all the pre-computer work though. So I figured why not see what others can come up with so describe the type of game you would create for next gen consoles if you could. Put as much details as you can about the characters, gameplay, graphics, levels, whatever you can. Dont worry about how much you write, the more the better. You can also add your own made art for it on here.

    So heres mine

Before I begin, i aint saying the things in this game are aliens, demons, monsters, whatever, that will be something you'll have to find out.

    Game: Surviva l/horror /pyschological /action /adventure
View: Can switch between 3rd person or first person view (3rd person camera is also directly behind you)

The game takes place in a very small town with lots of farms, a forest, counrty side with back roads from pavment ones to dirt roads, a small town. The whole map is like as big as or maybe bigger then San andreas but no oceans or water cutting you off, it would be road blocks, hills, whatever that keeps you from going out of the permenator. To get an idea what kind of area im talking about, watch the movie Signs which takes place in Bucks County, PA which I only live 15 mins. So its country/farm area basicly. You play a ordanary guy who lives in a farm house just like in Signs, you live a good distance from the town and other farm houses, the woods is close by.

anyways, you start out just doing normal everyday stuff but notice something isn't right. So you go in to check the tv to see whats going on and its showing werid reports that you dont understand, people are dissappearing, just werid things happening. (you can turn on tvs, and radios through out the game when ever you want and also change the channels and stations. They are like your only outside source out of this some county). well everything is interactive. If you go into the corn fields, you see them moving and with animation, your arms move as you walk through to push them out of your way. You can also use weapons/items like knives, machettes, flashlights, matches, shot guns, normal stuff you find. You can go into houses/stores, break into buildings, abandon barns, go into the woods, drive cars, climb, run, punch, kick, break tons of stuff, move stuff, even barrecade yourself into a room or basement if you get to scared.

You go around the county checking out stuff, the more you check out the more you uncover. You run into people acting strange in the middle of no where, creatures roaming around in the feilds, jumping out at you, zombie type things walking around, monsters poping out everywhere. Nothing is scripted, so each time you play, it will be a differnt experience. example of something that could happen is you're driving along a dark road with tall corn crops on both sides, your car breaks down and you have to walk the rest of the way into town, as your walking, you turn on your flash light and see some creature walking across the road in your light, it turns to look at you and freezes, then as you move your way towards it, a car comes barrelling out of the corn field and runs into the creature knocking it into the opposite corn field, the driver is screaming his head off and drives away almost hitting you.

another would be you're at this abandon barn, you go inside, look around, you see a ladder and decide to climb it, the ladder breaks on you and you fall into some junk and uncover a creature feeding on a dead person.

So seeing as nothing is scripted, there wont be any movies doing it, all talking, all actions all whatever will be doing game play. Such as finding someone hiding in their basement and you're talking with them. This would also be a game to incorperate the mic. Im not gonna give away the endings or anything major about the story (which is basicly create by you depending on what actions or choices you make) so the whole thing is open ended, and everything is decided by you on actions and choices.

The point of the game is, you never know whats going to happen, when it will, if it ever will, each time you play its differnt, and each time you play, you make experience something new that you didnt last time or find something new you didnt before. You explore, adventure, survive, kill, set traps, talk to people you come across, do whatever you want.

The graphics will be like Alan Wake but maybe with more realistic touch to textures and so. At night you'll have to use a flash light or headlights or some kind of light to see. You can turn on lamps in houses and stores, or set fire to things. But it will have a changing enviorment, a raising sun and moon (moon wont always show, it may be fogging sometimes, clear other nights, may rain/may not, There will be a small lake you will be able to go to, If you can explore it in real-life, you will in the game. Things may change later on in the game such as you find dogs dead or acting weird, or your car ripped apart. But just like in real life, if you do something bad or get hurt, there are consquences, like if you decide to jump out your second story window, you may break your leg. Doesn't mean you'll die right away but you'll suffer greatly in movement and health.

so thats it, if I were to make this, it would be the scarest game ever.

Im liking this idea, i'd love to play a game like that, maybe you should get in touch with someone.

It reminds me of an extremely evil and scary dream i had, except i was with a group of people, and i was a spy in the group, there was another one like me in the group as well, and we were exploring a town that looked desserted.
And we were in this big building, looked like a government building, and there was a map of the town, and there was another building across from us, so we sent a team of 3 (the other spy was in this team) to this other building, they went in, and the door was locked behind them, then this white acid stuff was pouring out the walls and well, they died.
Then we went over to check it out, door was practically welded shut from the acid, so we went back to the main building, but as we were, there was a massive metal-shattering noise, we turned round, but it was so dark we couldnt see very well, so we went closer, and someone got out binoculars, looked through and saw that the door was ripped off, we went towards it to investigate, and this massive dragon lands out of nowhere, and starts chasing us through the tunnel.

Thats where it got a little too unrealistic and when i knew it was a dream for sure.
oh yeh to let people know that dont already know, my dreams are as real as if i was awake, they always are, can be really great, but as you see above, extremely scary! The rest of the dream is on my website link underneath, it goes into much more detail.

Im thinking of incorporating this in some way into a game i hope to develop in the future, although there will be massive changes to it, for one, no dragon..probably some genetic accident or that.
I think i might make it a flashback, or a premonition you have during the game, and then you have to find out what really happened, or maybe make it a reported incident on book, and there was recordings lifted from security cameras in the buildings yehhh thats what i will do

Have fun with all the programming and design. Since if your really going to put your heart into it, it will be A LOT of coding and other such things since it is only one person. Though remember one thing: "Rome wasn't built in a day"

Yeh that was a pretty good analogy PS Gamer, and wasnt just built by one person either hehe.
Im just starting college this year, i will be doing java and delphi there, then on the 3rd year, C++.
    Cant wait!
Ive been learning some C++ on the wikibooks site, pretty useful site http://en.wikibooks.org

So far with my game, ive got all of the main cities designed, the basic island has been designed, i wont need to design much of the solar system since it is a real one, i will just need to get the orbits data and so on from a website.
The controls for the game are hmm a little confusing just now, since i want this game to be very interactive, (ie being able to interact with almost anything you see, kinda like Shenmue) its going to be a hard job.
I have started on the story just recently, although i think this will be alot harder to do than the actual coding!
Its basically a game with a story, but your the one that decides exactly how you go about going through the story, as soon as you come in at the airport, and after that scene, the game will be different for everyone.
In my game, i want the player to have a sense of control over the story, i want them to make their own story from the main base story that runs through the game, the main reason of being there.

    Ahh programmings fun stuff

If you're wondering what languages the game developers make their games in, it's mostly C++ and assembly. If you're wondering what you'd make your own games in with Linux when you get the hard drive (assuming you can), it would likely be the same, but there may be a sort of "game maker" included, in which case you wouldn't really need to know a programming language.

If you were referring to what it "uses" when it's running, I'd have to point out that it doesn't use a programming language, it runs straight machine code (binary).

I made a game once using RPG maker.. It was sorta confusing at first and took forever. I don't think its legal (with RPG maker 2000) to give out your games so I never did. Oh well.. I should try to make another one. For my first game, I wouldn't say it was that bad.

Yeh i remember using that ages ago as well...while in school LOL, i wasnt supposed to...but i got bored....
I was listening to a teacher in Administration tell us how to use MS Word....omg i near died from boredom, i knew the thing well enough to do most things that we would ever do in Admin.
So i just kicked up RPG Maker and played around, luckily i was in a corner so he couldnt see my screen
I miss the old days....that was like 3 years ago now...

And i still passed the class as well

RPGMaker Xp is available now also, it's kinda sad that the reason they've never been officially released over here is that the series has been pirated in the west on such a grand scale that the developers figuree it would be pointless.

My Idea for a game is a Grand Theft Auto Style game.

Its based on Street Racing, you start off in a city, with no job, and you work your way up through the ranks to be the best street racer.

I would like it to be set in a City like Tokyo, L/A or another larger metropolis, basically you make money buy doing odd jobs, stealing cars/stereo's, driving taxi's, and street racing so you can earn money & progress through the story and also buy & modify your car for racing.

Because of the size of the city there could be hundereds of possible tracks, quater miles, off road, plus having a living city element too, with traffic, police, pedestrians would make the game much more deep & put you in the illegal world of the street racer.

Because its GTA style you can just explore the city & have minor races, or follow the story, the game would have race crews & be really heavy in action.

I liked Need for SPeed underground, but I always thought how cool it would be to Cross Gran Theft Auto, with Need for Speed Underground, it would be a wicked concept and I know a lot of people would get hooked on it.

Right now, I'm working on a design for a game influenced by Xenosaga. It's a work in progress. Anyway, C++ programming isn't really what is all essential for a game, is it? What about stuff like audio, modelling or graphics?

Anyway, I'd be recommending checking out game design documents or other games and analyze them in details if you're serious about designing a game.

Here it is everyone, what you all have been waiting for, my video game. Here it is in a nutshell.
You are this guy who meets up with another guy and he tells you to run some errands for him, so you steal a couple of cars and finish the jobs and after each one he pays you for them. Then you meet someone else and do the same for him. This keeps going til the end of the game. You can also free roam and kill people and pick up hookers and do whatever you want.
eeeerrrrr wait..............hasn't this been done before?
    Man I love being a turtle....no wait.........man I love GTA.

Well my idea isnt' really to do much with gaming, but with advertising. i noticed during the Getaway demo at the Sony playstation conference that they had psp ad's all over the bus's and McDonalds ads and so on. i would propose to sony to use advertising in games like GTA/ games similar to GTA. Sony could advertise there latest VAIO, WEGA, Movie, soundtrack, etc on billboards and posters through out the game and then every month there would be a mandotory patch update that would remove all the old advertisements in the game and replace them with up to date ads. this would be an extremely cheap way to advertise sony products and get the word out quickly. Just think your driving down a road and see an ad for "Hitch" then you download a patch and the same add changed to a "Spider man 3" poster. Sony could also use this to advertise first party games. Not only would this help sony help sell their products, but also make the game seem more realistic with some of the enviroment changing

Dude c'mon now you mean to tell us that you haven't ripped any ideas from other games? Your idea is like everyother game known to mankind. It is everything like Resident Evil and Silent Hill and any other horror game on the market. You need more originality if you're going to do something like this.

There's stuff like SDL w/ OpenGL, OpenAL, etc. C++ is the most widely used programming language.

Then you're invisioning something completly differnt from what i am. Plus all the stuff in those games were scripted, none were on farms like the movie Signs (or the ones i live around) and the "monsters" and things happening has never been in any game that i have played. Theres no game I could even think of thats like this.

Ok I apologize, you're right i do agree with you and I do like your tv idea which is original. So sorry for the diss. Keep throwing some more original ideas in there and then make something of it cause I do enjoy the horror genre. Oh ya, and if you're going to make a game please for god sakes please give it an AO rating.

That's why we need more of them. I would like to start to see more AO ratings, so start something "original" and put an AO on it. The kids have enough EC and E games so if you're going to make a game stray away and do something new.
