Nobody should be worried about the PS Vita. It's splitting sales with the PSP. Sony's biggest competitor is themselves. Once they stop supporting the PSP the Vita's sales will go through the roof.

and when will they do that? They still sell the PS2 for gods sake. I think Sony really need to step up and just discontinue the PSP already. I love the system, but I feel that its crucial in order for the success of the Vita

The COD game on Vita interests me, but not enough to buy a Vita....yet.

I disagree that they should stop selling PSP.

1. PSP is selling at a good rate due to games. Has less to do with direct competition.

2. Sony is still making money on PSP. PSP is a cash cow right now, likely giving them more profits/unit than PS Vita.

3. PS Vita needs games to succeed, just like any other console, thus why it's doing poorly.

4. Every handheld goes through this cycle. Japanese aren't impulsive buyers like Americans, so they wait until there's something good rather than jumping the gun too early.

Usually hardware sales are more front-ended in the west. They aren't so much in the east. Now flip that with software sales.

The Vita is just a new PSP anyway. For marketing purposes they changed it from PSP. They have always sold old along side new. They continued to sell the PS1 for years and years after the PS2 came out. They continue to sell the PS2 years and years after the PS3 came out. Now they will sell old and new PSP's side by side. It has worked for them, so no reason to stop now.

Damn Vita sales dropped off drastically from the 50k we saw a couple weeks back!

3ds has been consistant for months in japan!

I don't agree with them discounting pSp they are making strong sales given how long its be out they need to offer some vita bundles to move more hardware already if they won't do a price cut

That's true and it's a concern.

However, it's not much of a concern when you ask if these companies would make something for Vita instead, if PSP wasn't there?

Then answer isn't always clear-cut. They're choosing PSP because there's already a good amount of user base on it. If they didn't have a choice to release on PSP, they won't automatically jump on the Vita. Especially bigger companies that have a higher threshold for success.

Yes, technically if there wasn't a choice, you will see more activity on Vita (though some people will just not develop at all, they will wait it out until it gets more popular) but it's a business afterall and people like high and easy profits.

If they axe the PSP, it will hurt them more than help.

lol Thats hillarious. And no not really since its being farmed out to the same developers who made Resistance Burning Skies. Its going to wind up as a mediocre cash in imo.
