    What’s inside Durango’s Alpha kit?

We have some details about Durango’sAlpha kit and its components. Bear in mind that these “specs” aren’t final, the ones that Xbox 3/720/Next will have in its final design are bound to vary.- 8 cores (x86 CPU)
    - 12 GB de RAM (8 + 4)
The Alpha kit has 12 GB of RAM, rather than the 8 GB in the final design. The extra 4 GB of RAM facilitates development of console system software.
    - DirectX 11.x GPU
The Alpha kit uses a discrete graphics card similar in capability and speed to the GPU that will be included in the final design. The card does not have the ESRAM that the final design GPU will.
    - 50GB Blu-ray Disk drive
    - HDD, etc

Also we have a list with the components supplied with the Alpha kit.
    Alpha kit includes:
    - Console build into a PC box
    - HDMI cable
    - Ethernet cable
    - Wired Controller

There also is a separate package that contains:
    - A special version of the Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor
    - Power cable
    - USB cable
    - Kinect included if negotiated

You also will need the following items that are not included in the Alpha kit.
    - Keyboard
    - A monitor or TV that supports a resolution of 1080p and equipped with HDMI input for video and audio, or DVI input for video only
    - USB thumb drive with a memory capacity equal to or greater than 2 GB
    - Mouse (optional)

The Alpha kit is intended to OS depuration/creation and to give developers a first view of the system.

Bluray disc drive eh? Thats good. I'm betting PS4 will continue using bluray as well. BR drives should be cheap to manufacture. And I love how scratch resistant bluray discs are. $299 price point? http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...e-tech-details

I'm guessing the time is right now also because no more slow ass 2x drives, so here's to hoping real streaming can be achieved without needing to rely on installs.

Don't get me wrong, installs are awesome but I like not to have to do them.
Gaming on all platforms right now.

I agree. The new BR drives should definitely be fast enough now.

8GB of ram looks promising in the final system. 4/4 split for the system and the gpu.

8GB does look good. But why x86? Isn't that 32-bit so isn't that bad?

its my understanding that "x86" is more of a moniker.

64-bit systems instead use x86-64 as an identifier, notice x86 still in the name...

its more of an architecture type or so i understand (i could be wrong) just like there is the PowerPC architecture type

both consoles will definitely be 64-bit systems. otherwise they're limited to 3 odd GB of memory

    however, where teh GPU specs?
oh well, i'll just add itachi's thread with this one in my mind and get one whole complete thread

x86 is a type of CPU architecture. They can be either 32 or 64bit.

@superDaE who had something to do with the leaks and trying to eBay a Durango dev kit has today posted this on the Twitter account he/she owns.

sounds good if both consoles have at least 4 gigs of ram then they will be nuts and i think both video cards will be on par with each other
