PS4 2013? I dont get it

Ive seen a lot of people here, and other places saying PS4 is likely released Fall 2013.
Ive been looking for information on why they think that, and cant find any.

The PS4 hasnt even been officially announced yet. Can someone help me out with the reason they think the system will be announced and released in the same year?

Lol they don't know what they're talking about. Speculations at best. We'll most likely see an announcement made in E3 next year and then we won't be seeing it anytime soon maybe around 2015-16.

Yeah it's all speculation, and Fall 2013 it's the least likely. I could speculate for an announcement @ E3 2013 and probably release it Winter 2013 sort of like what Wii U did this year. But I'd bet on 2014.

There are number of reasons people think the PlayStation 4 will come out next year. First reason being that we didn't see a whole lot of new and exciting IPs at E3 this year, apart from The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls. Guerrilla Games and Sucker Punch have been confirmed to be working on next-gen titles.

Another reason is that if Sony waits too long (around 2015-16, like you said) they will fall behind in sales compared to the competition. And just because Sony were to release the PlayStation 4 next year, it doesn't mean they'll drop support for their current-gen platforms (PS3 and Vita).

My apologies. A 2014 maybe nearing 2015 sounds more plausible.

I think we hear about the next xbox at e3 and the next ps3 in 2014 e3 with a holiday 2014 release date

Well Frank Gibeau from EA has already stated publicly that both new consoles will be launching in about a years time, and that his company are working on between 3 and 5 new IP'S for next gen consoles. He's certainly in a position to know.

I think we only see a new Xbox at E3 this year.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if we saw a ps4 this year at E3 with the release of the SS Ps3 just doesn't make sense to me...

Support for the PS3 and PS4 will overlap. PS3 support won't end the moment the PS4 launches, at least a Two year overlap in support is certain to happen while the PS4 user-base grows.

My prediction:

Next gen consoles announced/teased on next year's (2013) E3. We get a few trailers and a concept-prototype to look at. Some blablablabla about "how awesome the new tech is" and that the tech is "much more advanced than any PC tech" and so on.

2014 we get a full reveal on E3 of both consoles and a release date which will be late 2014.

In my opinion, this is the most likely scenario. But that's just me!

I dont think Sony will let Microsoft have a year head start again. I agree with MBS, both announced by E3 at the latest, both released fall 2014.

They're not going to give us a release date if they haven't even announced it. You always run the risk of delays.

Sony hasn't said anything about the ps4 as it stand they are just rumors at the moment. Can't take anything as fact with the PS4 or Nextbox

I bet we see the PS4 in late 2013. The PS3 right now suffers from the lack of ram it has. It is barely keeping up by todays standards. The XMB just gets slower and slower with every update that adds features. The more trophies you earn, the longer the sync process becomes.

Games today are suffering from major pop up and texture delays. Borderlands 2 for example.

Sony is also going to incorporate the PS Vita with the PS4 in similar way that the Wii U does with it's tablet controller.

I see 2 new consoles coming in late 2013.

it won't release 2013. people just cant live in the moment and have been saying since '11 about the inevitible release. Everytime one of these threads pops up i reaffirm a 2015 release.

You don't think it would release in 2014, if unveiled at next year's E3 press conference? 2015 just seems a little late.
