What will be the PS4's specialty?

Okay, so the PS1 could play CDs, the PS2 could play DVDs, and the PS3 could play Blu Ray discs.

What could be the PS4's specialty? Do you think the PS4 will stick with Blu Ray discs? Do you think it's specialty might compete with kinect and other motion gaming?

I think they'll stick with Blu-ray Discs and just increase the storage amount. If they're going to try and push anything new, it'll probably be cloud gaming, what with the recent acquisition of Gaikai.

Most likely quad-layer Blu-ray to support 4k movies. Sony currently doesn't have any new tech format that requires a trojan horse to massively push to market.

Itll support bluray, cloud and digital gaming, push 4k but only have 720 to 1080 for games and 3D at either 720 or 1080. Gaikai and SEN will play a big party next gen as Sony further unifies it's content across console, handheld and mobile devices. There will be increased Vita intergration too, and as usual a shit load of first party games with devs like ND working magic. Sony will buy QD and the console will be synonomous with more mature content and itisgetting a Dust 514 port which will be free, established and badass!

Nothing wrong with keeping Blu Ray. Its a great format.

I just hope it plays games, and that I can buy them physically and have a big shelf full of awesome PS4 games. All I care about

I expect nothing that's THAT new. I expect just an evolution of the current gen consoles and their gimmicks (Kinect 2.0 or whatever, a newer version of Move and blablah; improved wireless features and whatnot). This gen, console online gaming was introduced big time, and of course: HD. I expect more games to run in 1080p, but 720p still being the standard. And of course, ever more introduction of online features to drive the gamers away from buying and owning/selling physical discs. We will get ridiculous "security" and "copyright" conditions that we have to obey if we want to play online, or even turn on the console.

On the positive side, I hope for solid, strong machines, that's all. I don't want any gimmick-controllers or motion-gaming blablah, except for something that's greatly done like Dead Space Extraction on PS3 with Move (what a nice game, but to be honest, it's the only thing I ever played with Move - I bought it just for DS Extraction!).

I hope for reasonable HDD sizes, and the ability to upgrade the HDD size to any size as long as it fits into the slot in the console. I want the consoles (I mean both the PS4 and the Xbox 3) to have as much RAM as possible, and a great graphics card and a good CPU.

At the end of the day, we GAMERS want good games. And my opinion is, that the PS4's and Xbox3's speciality should be the focus on games. Improve physics, graphics, sound, animation, AI, improve everything. That's what I hope we'll see. There's already some great engines out there that could deliver great next-gen games. CryEngine3, Frostbite2, UnrealEngine4 (and even the modified versions of UE3), AnvilNext and all the custom ones that great developers like GuerillaGames and Sony Santa Monica Studios use.

So please, Sony and Microsoft, just specialize on great machines that can deliver great games. That's all I want. No gimmicks.

Can recommend Killzone 3 with the move, played the whole game with it. Was like playing with a mouse for aiming.

I really expect like others have stated

An increase in Cloud Gaming between the PS4/Vita

Some games (like madden for example) to be able to use the PS Vita as a touch controller similar to Wii U

Quad Blu-Ray (no reason to fix whats not broke)

I would imagine because theyre so cheap, at least a 1TB HDD in the top tier model

minimum of 720p or 1080i for all games across the board

Almost All games to be run solidly around 60FPS

And a Kegerator. (i can dream)

I don't think we'll see games running at 60 frames per second become the standard. Developers would likely have to decrease the quality of the visuals and any improvements would be minimal at best (i.e. Call of Duty).

Mortal Kombat seemed to have very few issues making 60FPS an issue (granted it wasnt a hardware taxing game) But i would expect the next generation of consoles to make 60FPS the benchmark for quality games, and call of duty can do whatever it wants because even though the games have sucked they still sell like a cure for cancer.

perhaps i should have clarified, i meant that i expect top tier games all to run at about 60FPS (your uncharteds, and halos, and gears etc..) and your 2nd and 3rd party games to all run smoothly at around or above 40 FPS.
