Hi! In the next month I will upgrade my video card from GTX 560 to GTX 680. But I just want to know if this card has that shader thing? Because when I download games from steam or buy them on a disc. It asked me in the requirments to have either shader 3.0 or directX11. This is the link for my GPU that I will get.

Does this card support that higher shader? Because I don't have much information about these 2 things. Thanks alot

Jeezx your old card must be quite old, Shader 3 came out in about 2005/6.
Both those cards you listed support Direct x 11 so support shader 5 and therfore shader 3 also.
Whats the rest of your PC specs?Last edited by keefy; 10-12-2012 at 00:09.

Both GTX 5xx and 6xx cards support DX11 and Shader Model 5.
DX10 and DX11 require Windows Vista, 7 or 8 to work. (So if you are using windows XP you need to upgrade your operation system.)
DX11 does support graphics cards with shader model 3 upwards if developer creates different code path for them.
Thus some games require DX11 with Shader Model 3 as a minimum. (and thus Windows vista/7/8 as well).'no, no one in their sane mind uses OpenGL on PS3' - Repi
'nope, PS3 uses a wonderful low-level API called libgcm' - Repi
