God of War: Ascension new trailers - 'Zeus' and 'Unchained'

God of War: Ascension is the first in the franchise to add multiplayer, which is explained away in this trailer by the notion that Zeus, ruler of the pantheon, chooses human champions to battle his enemies. Even though he could presumably smash them himself with the lightning he gave to the mortals. Maybe he has an appointment to keep that day?

You’ll notice there are two trailers down there; the second one is a “making of” affair called Unchained, which tracks two years of development as the Sony Santa Monica team build towards God of War Ascension’s March 2013 release, exclusively for PlayStation 3.

What do God of War fans think of the inclusion of a multiplayer component? Are you impressed with what SCE Santa Monica Studio have shown so far?

I will most likely play the multiplayer for an hour or so and then just forget about it like the majority of games with multiplayers. I'm more interested in the single player campaign which I hope doesn't come short compared to the rest.

I'll definitely be getting the game (eventually) but I'm not a big competitive multiplayer fan. I mean I've been there and done that on so many games, that I've grown board of it. Now if it has cooperative multiplayer (and not just team on team) but something with a story line to play through, that would be cool. I enjoy those a lot more.

Don't get me wrong, God of War is awesome.. But I just feel that them continually going backwards with the character is getting really old.

Either take the series in a new direction with a new protagonist or just stop with the constant back tracking.

Looks awesome to me! Multiplayer is optional, so not a big concern to anyone. I plan to play the multiplayer though, looking forward to it.

I was a little surprised at the idea of having MP for a game like this, but this actually might look like fun, assuming it's not linear like that (you come in with some guy, kill some monster and then go to the titan where everyone else is at) but I might get this game now.

I don't mind them innovating. Multiplayer needs to grow beyond shooters and RTS's as well.

That's what I'm hoping we'll see on the PlayStation 4.

At this rate there will be a a God of War: Matrix Prison where you must take control of Kratos' father's sperm and battle your way into the ovum whereupon there will be a long quick time event to successfully germinate. After a few cut scenes showing his relative tranquility, Kratos will be once again cast into darkness and fire with the violent convulsions of his birth into the new world.
