Windows 8 upgrade

Ok so you can buy windows 8 upgrade for £25 which is bloody cheap. However the copy of windows 7 I am currently running is a cracked version of win7 ultimate. Will this be a problem. The laptop I'm using obviously came with a licensed copy of windows but thats not what is being run on the machine. I don't want to pay for the upgrade if its not going to work.

As far as i know, i think you need to have a legit version of Windows running for an upgrade. I think that's the way it has worked in the past at least.

May I ask where you have found an upgrade for £25? I could be interested in that. I'm happy with W7 Ultimate though.

Yeah, ME was pretty bad, it is like Fight Club, we just don't talk about it...They should of just polished Vista up better than they did, Windows 7 is what Vista should of been!

This, so much this. I was given a free copy through my job. I gave it to my brother. I personally think it wasn't ready for prime-time just yet. After dealing with it every day, I refuse to even install it on my computer, definitely not worth it at all.

Save your money, wait until you hear better things about it.

The problem concerning pirated copy, i think that you need a legit version running on your computer in order to upgrade with a discount.

It is kind of weird in the fact that you can still easily get to the Windows Desktop and many apps automatically send you there. It reminds me of programs that were making the transition from DOS to Windows. You would be in Windows for a while and then you would click on an icon that would pop you up into a DOS environment... I still use programs like this, but they aren't the most elegant programs I have seen.

The new interface is better in a touchscreen environment until it pops you up to a Desktop. Also, the Windows App store is not very good right now. We could not even find Pandora in the music section.

When I installed it, I had to go to Microsoft's site and have them email me a separate code to download WMC. This should be included in the "upgrade".

WMC is no longer being bundled with windows.

Stick with 7, atleast untill they reinstall the proper start bar and right click.

I run XP too. Seems to run faster than 7. I haven't tried 8 but I hate change...although I have tried several linux OSes before, I just hate having to change everything.

Just so you all know. I bought the upgrade and all seems to be working fine. Will report back if anything changes.

I'm using Windows 8 pro on my Desktop, Windows 7 ultimate on my laptop, and Mountain Lion on my mac mini. Basically my desktop gets used most, my laptop next, and then my mini last. I got windows 8 free for being a student, and I think I can actually use my serial on two machines at once.

For those who've actually got Windows 8, how is it after adjusting to the 'new' layout? I'm seriously interested in trying it on my laptop - can always move back to Windows 7 that came with it, if need be.

For only £25, it seems worth a punt at least.

Okay, I went ahead and purchased it shortly after posting. It is now installed and I've played about with it for about 30 minutes. Honestly, first impressions are fairly positive. I've set up the Start menu for most used programs such as Chrome, Netflix, Steam and everything's running well.

I'm not convinced it's an OS I'd put on my main rig but it's certainly decent enough for normal media use on my laptop. Quite happy so far.

Mum got a new laptop for Christmas with windows 8, 5s in she is crying for someone to put windows 7 on it because she gets stuck inside apps lol.

I personally think 8 is an utter joke and a disgrace to PC user intelligence. Microsoft need to hang their head in shame for this BS.
