Can I play A Japanese PS3 game?

Well, I have bought in the past lots of games from Japanese PSN online store and they worked on my North American PS3 model.. I want to buy from Ebay the PS1 GAME called WINNING ELEVEN 4. Its on a disc and its Japanese version. If I will buy it, can I play it on my PS3 North American model? If the downloaded games are playable and what do you guys think about the disc version.? Thanks for any help.

Don't think so. I believe that PS1/PS2 are region lock, but PS3 games aren't. Sad state of affairs I know. Don't quote me, but I'm like 90% sure.

PS1/2 games are region locked so no. Your only hope is a PS1 Classic version on PSN (if its not already there).

Ohh man Iam sad now lol. Thanks for clearing that out. I liked Winning Eleven 4 and I have just checked the Japanese PSN store and they don't have it, I guess no chance of getting this game.

Yeah there's no disc swap tricks you can do either like on PS1 I've tried lol

Quite a few of the PS1 Japanese game are on the Japanese Playstation Network in digital format so you can download them. Best suggestion from me is to setup a Japanese Playstation account and then get a VITA

Winning Eleven 4 is not on the Japanese PSN. I did check the store out and it wasnt there.
