The issue is that is costs more to test all these people than the solution purports to solve.

Wish we would do something like there over here.

I have no problem with people taking drugs, i for a start think they should be legal. It's your life, you choose whatever you want to put in your body. I don't need the government telling me what I can and can't do with substances. However, i have a problem if your buying drugs out of the tax payers money to get high and not end up looking for work and using benefits that someone else could, well, benefit from.

I don't understand that some people don't have a desire to work. I like the feeling of working and saving for something and buying it for myself.

Why would you want to work if you can get it all for free, and use the money you "saved" to by something for yourself?

I know this chic that gets social security, food stamps and disability...in her mid 20's. The disability isn't for something that actually holds her back that much, she's more than capable of working and contributing to the community. It's that she won't because she wouldn't be able to collect assistance and we all know free money is better than earned money. Smh. On top of that she drinks and gets high more than most people I know.

I'm all for this. Tons of people abuse assistance. I'm not saying do away with it because many people truly do need the help, families with children etc.. But it's in place to try and improve their quality of life, not support bad habits and laziness.

No $#@!? Welfare cost money? Who knew.

My point was that these tests are partially committed to save money, but they factually don't. Not in the way they're done now, anyways.

That depends on how you count costs.

If all you're doing is adding up the cost of the drug tests, then sure, it looks like a money loser.

Now, add up the costs of all of the drug related crime that is being prevented by not allowing welfare users also be drug addicts anymore, and what do you get? 20% of all prisoners are also welfare recipients and 80% are drug users, so removing the drug using welfare recipients would be a massive savings in both legal costs and reduced crime.

It's similar to the Death Penalty. Opponents always say how much it costs to convict and execute a person, but they never tell you how much an innocent persons life is worth if you set just one of these killers free and they kill again.

If you're not actually figuring in the medical costs for the recipient, her three kids, all the food, electricity, and housing, that is paid for at least two years... yeah. Don't add, and I guess your post is true.

Well if they make it legal, what happens if that fails

They can make it illegal so quickly, that's a war right there

Medicare isn't a welfare problem. Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people at 65 or older, and others that have disabilities. You're probably thinking of Medicaid.
