http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...aunch-in-chinaSony has gained approval to launch the PlayStation 3 in China, a country where games consoles are technically illegal.
Authorities granted the PS3 a "China Compulsory Certificate" in July, Techinasia reports, although the machine has yet to formally materialise. Sony first launched the PlayStation 3 in Japan nearly six years ago.
China implemented its console ban in 2000 to protect the nation's youth - and in doing so created a grey-market for games consoles and arguably encouraged piracy.
Consoles can be sold if labelled as home entertainment devices, which, with its Blu-ray player and various online services, the PlayStation 3 is anyway.
I'm shocked no one is talking about this. This has potential to be VERY huge for Sony.

Or not. The Chinese are just as proud of their products like Japan is. Depending on the success of the Playstation 3 over there, they might even create their own entertainment console to overshadow the competition.

Toyota have sold alot of cars in china so they don´t totally ignore japanese products there. 2011 china stood for about 13% of toyotas sales so IF sony can get the ps3 in to china it has a good chance to sell pretty well.

Yea but sony won't give a shit since they are making money on each console.
I heard that they can't bootleg the games at the moment because there is no way of downgrading the latest firmware. Forgive me if I'm wrong on this subject because I don't follow the custom firmware scene closely.

PlayStation 3 may finally launch in China
What I find most odd wasn't there a china only console being released that was 800 bucks? Or something like that? I'm going to search for that story
EDIT: here's the story it was from a year ago and was supposed to be released in 2012...and the price was 470 us dollars
