Source:http://gadgetinsiders.com/xbox-720-p...loper/1202371/The next generation of video game consoles, for the most part, is still at least one year away from launching. Still, gamers and analysts alike are eagerly awaiting the release of the unofficially named Microsoft Xbox 720 and Sony PlayStation 4; the Nintendo Wii U will be out in stores less than two weeks from now. There is a chance, though, that the Xbox 720 and PS4 may not be the fastest gaming devices out there once released. At least that’s how one respected video game developer sees things.
Chris Roberts of Star Citizen told ArsTechnica over the weekend that he will be developing the next installation of the Wing Commander series for the PC, and the PC alone. Apparently, next-gen consoles won’t be part of Star Citizen’s plans.
Roberts explained that his demonstration of the next Wing Commander game cannot be achieved on present-day consoles, but can be done with some limitations on the next generation. However, he added that “a top-end PC now is already more powerful than what a next generation console is going to be” due to the lack of memory in video gaming consoles.
As Roberts pointed out, 512 MB RAM is way too little memory to support a sophisticated video game, thus the decision to create a new Wing Commander title exclusive for the PC platform. “Of course you’re not going to get all 4 GB (memory for a video game) because Windows is a hungry beast, but you’re getting a lot more than 512 MB,” said Roberts about the memory constraints on gaming consoles.
Both the Xbox 720 and PS4 are expected to be announced at or around the time of E3 2013, which takes place June next year. Neither Microsoft nor Sony has confirmed these rumors.
I hear him coherently.

If that is true its a real shame. I think new generation consoles should be at least as powerful as a decent current generation pc.
In terms of ram 6 and not less is required for at least a decent console, if not 8.

This was always going to be the case. What's the issue? A 'top-end current gen pc' costs at least $1000.

Completely unnecessary. Next time you have your win 7 pc open, hit Ctrl alt del and check you resources out. Check your page file and check your available memory.
These machines only have to compete with each other. 8gb is only required if one of them has it and the other doesn't.
