Sony Computer Entertainment has announced a significant milestone for the PlayStation 3, with similar impressive feats from the PlayStation Move controller system.
Since its launch in November 2006, 70 million PlayStation 3 consoles have been sold worldwide, SCE announced today. The milestone was officially pipped on November 4.
There are now over 3,590 games published for the PlayStation 3, with over 595 million units sold worldwide.
The PlayStation Move motion controller system has managed 15 million sales since its own launch in September 2010. It is now supported by over 400 compatible titles, including the recently released Wonderbook system.
Sony took the time to note that the PlayStation 3 has evolved through multiple hardware revisions, culminating in the September release of the Super Slim model, the smallest and most energy-efficient version to date, boasting the largest HDD sizes.
The PlayStation Network launched alongside the PlayStation 3 in November 2006 and now operates in 59 territories, offering 170,000 pieces of downloadable content, of which just 57,000 are game-related, the rest being entertainment applications including movies, music and sports. The PlayStation store was re-launched in October in Europe, South America and the US.
I'm sure that with The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension and (possibly) Final Fantasy Versus XIII releasing next year that those numbers will continue to rise.

Not bad. Next year will be especially better for them with all the bigger titles hitting the shelves.

Not really surprising is it? They all ship around 6-8 million units this time of year.
Pushing them onto shelves for Xmas.
Only if MS hasn't sold a thing since September . MS usually shift between 6-8 million as well this time of year, so yeah probably still around 3 million ahead as has been the status quo for a while.

They move a lot of stock in to the channels for Xmas. Most orders are in the pipeline by then.
I think you might be under estimating how many units MS maybe have pumped into the market simply because of Halo 4.
But yea could be 2 million, could be 3 million, we have no idea, and that because Sony hide there number in the fiscals now. So its all guess work.

Is there any real point in bringing Sony's performance last gen into any kind of equation that measures its success this gen? The technology, online infrastructure and culture of gaming changed a lot when 7th gen arrived...MS launched first, for cheaper with WAY more advertising. Although it didn't match Sony's sales in the PS2 era, MS managed to get their online momentum started and that paid off this gen.
Sony has struggled against natural disasters, weak currency and a major hack and is still more or less neck and neck with an extremely strong and successful competitor. How can that not be classed as good?PSU GHOST SYNDICATE - DUST 514 Media HUB - Podcast - BLOG (Soon™)

That number probably includes PSN, Mini's, PSOne and 2 games, adding the PS3 games. That's probably accurate I'd say. lol
