70 million PS3s sold is a well deserved feat for Sony.
I've had the best single player gaming experience with my PS3. With everything that has gone on this generation it's great to see Sony have this kind of success. I think they're in good position to do even better with the PS4 if they handle their business come next generation.

PS3 Out Sold Xbox 360 Worlwide!
Are you guys aware that the PS3 out sold 360 world wide?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3
XBOX 360 Units sold Worldwide: 70 million (as of September 30, 2012)
PS3 Units sold 70.2 million (as of September 30, 2012)
I see that as a grate achievement for Sony, and do remember the 360 was out 1 year ahead of PS3, and yet PS3 took the crown :0.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

FY2012 actually consolidates both PS2 and PS3 in their fiscals.. So PS3 is still lagging behind, we just don't know by how much anymore. The down trend seems to suggest the PS2 sells 300k less units each quarter. So anywhere between 300-600k (maybe up to 1.2 millions, who knows exactly?...no one!!) PS2's are added to the "PS3 sales"for FY 2012 so far... That would still put the PS3 anywhere from 100k up to 1 million behind. But still, with 1 year behind, not launched WW at the same time and still the most expensive entry level SKU, I'd say they caught up nicely. The holidays might set them back again as they have the most expensive current gen console, New hardware to contend with (Wii-U) and no significant software lined up compared to MS offerings.

Those numbers are PS3 from 06 to 11, and now it's PS2 + PS3 numbers for 12. /thread

I do hope SONY decide to have a good variety of games for the ps4 ( that are exclusive) rather than focus too much on like 2 or 3 games each year or two.
If SONY can just make a good open world game, they would be a lot better of IMO.

If the Super Slim was $199 they'd be ahead by now but Sony needs to make as much as they can from their gaming business since Sony overall are losing a lot. At the end of the day the money is more important, but they do need to sell as much as possible too to avoid being pushed out of the industry (unlikely though with all their studios and IPs).

IMO there hasn't been any success or failure this gen. While Ninty had a good hardware run, the software attach rate is lacklustre. Sony and MS are to neck to neck and while one could argue that MS took a big chunk of the ps3 market share, lets not forget they were out a year ahead in all territories while sony took their sweet time for PAL territories. Lets not also forget that Sony is STILL 100$ more expensive. Also, I would argue the fact that Nintendo was most likely the ones taking market share from SONY this gen, but of course I could be wrong!!!
To me there is no clear winner/losers. I guess it's a matter of the kind of shades the responding member is wearing!!!When the Bogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.
