TBH I think this is only a fail in the eyes of the net. I think the use of 'that surface' is an indication that Oprah didn't mean to imply she was writing from one. She would have said 'love this surface' had she wanted to imply she was writing from one. That, as a demonstrative adjective implies distance between the speaker and the object.
If you're going to laugh at her, do it for good reason!
