How much memory does a 500gb ps3 actually have?

I know most hard drives round up and the PS3 uses some memory for the operating system.

How much space would I actually have if I upgraded to this size?

I did a google search and other people were left with 416 GB/ 465 GB, which is just a crazy amount of space to lose

Right, so you aren't actually losing something you never had.

I guess losing it would be an accurate term based on how the size is actually calculated on other OS's, etc. I just never consider it "lost" when you're using FAT32, etc.

I have a 500GB but can't remember how much you have straight after installing it, I know it's 465GB though before the OS takes its 10%, roughly it'll be 465GB - 46.5GB, so about 418GB?
