Watched it twice yesterday. Once in the morning, normal. Then again at night with the double frame rate, and 3D.

I'd give it a 9.

It looks like the general public is enjoying this movie a lot more than the critics. It only has a 65% on RT, but it's currently #102 on IMDB's Top 250. NeoGAF is also loving this movie.

I'm also going to keep track of all the scores PSU members give this member (from this thread, the poll, and the Rate The Last Movie You've seen thread), with a 'PSU Score' in the OP (currently at an 8.5).

Rotten Tomatoes is my least favorite review site. Most people who review on it are pretentious assholes.

It was a good movie. Some aspects could have been better, and felt perhaps a bit too kiddy-kiddy. I wish the tone had been generally more serious at some parts while still maintaining some of the good humor. I also didn't enjoy some of the overuse of CGI. I realize they needed it for the trolls and such, but overall it just distracted me at some points. 3D is 100% not worth it (when has it ever been?), and the higher framerate didn't bother me at all. In fact I quite liked the additional smoothness.

Finally saw this last night in LieMax HFR 3D.

I thought it was enjoyable, but had too many unneeded scenes that should have been saved for the Extended Edition. The HFR had it's strengths and weaknesses, and overall I was a bit distracted throughout.

I want to watch this again in 2D/24FPS. Then I'll give a rating.

Yeah, I already shared that article on NeoGAF.

Personally, while the HFR certainly had some impressive aspects, I often found myself focusing on the different nature of the film rather than the film itself. I was distracted. Perhaps I just need to get used to it though.

Anyway, I'm very interested in seeing this in 2D/24 FPS this weekend.

I've seen the film in both HFR 3D IMAX and regular 2D and I liked it in 2D much better. The 3D cgi effects like the Goblin King and Trolls looked amazing in HFR 3D, but the rest of the film was distracting and felt hyper realistic.

The storyline / film itself was excellent. It had quite a few changes from the book but they also added a lot of cool things from the Appendices. I just wish I didn't have to wait 2-3 more years to see the whole thing together.

i quite like the tech it has to be said. its a bit weird at times though, not sure why... the movements seem somewhat surreal at times. for the most part it was enjoyable.
i like how peter jackson takes some liberties with the book, but always has it seated within the tolkiens lore. a solid movie, not as grand as the lord of the rings, but then again, tis only one third of a whole

That might be the truth for you and RT, but a lot of people really enjoyed the movie.

Personally, I'm somewhere in between RT (65%) and IMDB (8.4). After three viewings, I've settled on a 7.5/10. Definitely not a great film IMO, as there are too many flaws. But it's a very fun movie nonetheless.

And yes, I saw it three times lol. First with my brothers, second with my girlfriend, and third with my friends.

I liked the movie too, dare I say more than LotR? It was slower paced and relaxing. Which is natural considering size of the book. Also Martin Freeman is fantastic as Bilbo.

3D wasn't pushed too far and felt smoother with 48fps.

Some parts felt a bit "amateurish" at the faster framerate but I blame Hollywood for that. I can imagine lower budget films based on our usual everyday scenario will struggle to give the big budget feeling of the old.

Overall it was a great experience and can't wait for the next one in HFR 3D.

Thankfully the sets are so well crafted that that isn't really a problem, but other things can be noticeable. Some say the visual effects doesn't hold up as well or wardrobe or beards look fake.

My main issues were the lighting and movements, everything is much faster.
