His body is ready! Classy guy
In a rather classy move, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida recently went on Twitter to proclaim that he's now an owner of Nintendo's Wii U.
Not only that, but even posted his Nintendo ID publicly and was asking for "friend requests," too. Here's his entire tweet regarding the matter.
Got a Wii U (US version), my Nintendo ID is "ShuYoshida", pls send me a friend request so I see you on the Activity Feed.
For those interested in "friending" Yoshida, I regret to inform you that it might be too late as he's reported to have hit his "friend cap" already.
Should Yoshida kept quiet that he got the competition's console? I don't look at it that way, but see Yoshida as being a person who just enjoys games regardless of the platform they're on. But for conspiracy theorists, feel free to speculate that Yoshida got one so that Sony can dissect the Wii U for Sony to copy.
Sadly, we have no word on what Yoshida has been playing on his Wii U and what he thinks of it. For those who managed to add him as a friend, which game has he been spending the most time on?
Should execs continue the trash-talking game that was all the rage back in the Nintendo vs. SEGA days or are you happy that someone as high up in the food chain as Yoshida appreciates the competition's efforts?

The PS came about from Nintendo wanting Sony to make a CD ROM for the SNES. They even revealed this at CES in 1991 I believe. Nintendo killed the partnership with Sony right after that and went with Phillips CD ROM tech. It was mostly a money split problem, and Nintendo killed the deal off. Wonder who wanted more of the pie lol?

What happen was Sega had previously partnered with Sony to create the sega CD. So Nintendo wanted into the cd game so they also partnered with sony to create one for the SNES the add on was going to be called the playstation.
Now once the beginning phases started nintendo looked at the contract it had with Sony which gave sony most of the profit that was going to be made on cd's sold also give them rights some some nintendo IP's (at the time) sony was flirting with the idea of making a home console for themselves "one day" and Nintendo felt that it wouldnt be fair for sony to know the inner workings of the SNES when they already had known what the genesis had so what nintnedo did was also have talks and had phillips working on a cd ad on as well for the SNES (side note SNES did have a Sony sound chip that was designed by the "father" of playstation he was also head of this proposed contract with the cd add on).
Sony ceo refused to release a console for themselves until CES when Nintendo let Sony announce it was working with Nintendo to create a cd add on called the playstation. 2 hours later Nintendo went on stage and announce their partnership with Phillips. Sony was embarrassed, angry, and wanted to get back at Nintendo for the betrayal so they green light the playstation add on as a stand alone console the first playstations where able to play cd games and SNES cartridges.
Nintendo Ego got the best of them and for the next 11 years they would get their ass kicked by sony in the home console market. Also this is important because obviously it birthed the playstation one also one of the worse consoles of all time Phillips CDi which had 3 zelda games released for it and a Mario game due to the contract it gave them the right to release those two nintendo IP's on there system obviously nintendo themselves did not work on these games.
This is one major reason why the SNES is the most important video game console of all time

Its rumored to the high price for cartridges and lack of data it could hold compared to the lower cost to make CD's with a lot more memory compared to cartridges.
Final fantasy 7 was in development for N64 however when square saw the potential on CD's and the playstation and jumped ship starting nintendo's downfall.

Hope they go back to "cartridges" in the form of USB sticks or SD cards or something. The mechanical aspect of discs means non-sequential read time is much slower, and larger disc space only inflates the problem.

This is probably a dumb question but how much data would they be able to store on cartridges compared to discs? Or does it not matter now?

I don't think it would matter however the cost to make cartridges compared to disc is enough to declare the industry would never do that (mainstream). It would be like bringing back cassette tapes instead of using cd's.
