Namco Bandai has announced Dark Souls II for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC at the Video Game Awards in Los Angeles tonight.
In development at From Software, the game will offers new obstacles, challenges, and suffering. It will feature a new hero and story, unfamiliar world, and a revamped server-based mutiplayer mode.
“Dark Souls II retains the core essence of Dark Souls while evolving to present new twists and challenges that are sure to please longtime fans and attract new comers to the series,” says Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing at Namco Bandai. “From Software is going to take a very dark path with Dark Souls II; players will need to look deep within themselves to see if they have the intestinal fortitude to embark on this journey.”
Tomohiro Shibuya, director of Dark Souls II, added: “This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series. The entire development team is striving to make Dark Souls II an experience that is fresh while not forsaking its roots in presenting players with challenging gameplay. Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey.”
A release date for Dark Souls II was not set. Watch the debut trailer below. View a set of trailer screen caps at the gallery.

I can not wait. I doubt itll be a next gen launch like psn says it might. Itll def be next year around sept-nov and this gen. Quote me on that.
This was definitely a nice surprise. Seriously can't wait. Few games get me hyped just by a simple announcement and trailer.
Hell yes! Excited as hell for this. Dark Souls is one of my all-time favorites.
Really excited about this! I'm a huge fan of both Demon's and Dark Souls, so I'm definitely ready for some more. I'm also really interested to see what changes they make and things that they add to the game because Dark Souls was really amazing. Definitely really awesome news though and was a great surprise to see when I got home from work tonight.
Blacksite can you please put PS3/360/PC in the title?
THE BEST GAME EVER WAS JUST ANNOUNCED!
This was so unexpected and you have no idea how I'm drooling right now...
A new Souls game.
A new Naughty Dog game.
A new Grand Theft Auto.
A new Metal Gear Solid.
A new God of War.
It's too good to be true.

A new Tomb Raider
A new Bioshock
A new Dead Island
A new Metro
A new Splinter Cell
A new Quantic Dream game
A new naruto game
A new Crysis
A new tales game (localized)
A new castlevania
and thats not counting all the other games that seem good but I'm not sure about. Yeah, 2013 is sure going to be a crazy good year for everyone.
Most if not all of those I have no interest in.
However there is also this quote from NEW DIRECTOR:
“I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle,” he tells us. “[Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable.”Man who chase after bus get exhausted, man who run in front of bus get tired
Man who masturbates in class has firm grip of subject at hand
Woman who sink in man's arms soon have arms in man's sink

I'm psyched for all of those titles in the coming year. If the PS4 is coming too, then I may just hold off for a bit on buying it. But, it does seem that these titles would be great exit games for this generation. BTW, I have been playing Dark Souls again and Have finally beat the Taurus demon and that damned Armored tusk! I'm getting a bit better at the game though and making small strides!! It is a lot of fun, if a bit tough for me though!
