I called it, and I couldn't be happier. Well deserving, this was my first choice and Journey was my close second.

Really happy for Telltale getting the recognition they deserve and paving the way for better storytelling in games.

I've never watched the show and have no idea what it's all about, but to trump it's competition for GoTY and get accolades left right and centre it must surely be a great game. Might check it out some day

Sorry but the graphics are the chosen art style because it is based on the comics, they weren't going for hyper-realistic. "Ugly as shit" is a stretch, and a big one at that.

I found the style part of the charm. Also it says a lot that this is one of the few games I bought this year. Journey would have won it for me if it wasn't for TWD, as beautiful as that game was I found it sort of forgettable and too short with no replay value. Whereas TWD took me on a rollercoaster and had me hooked over half a year, with plenty of replay value as I had multiple saved files with different choices.

I enjoyed The Walking Dead, but Game of the Year? Not even close in my opinion.

Graphics were nothing impressive.

The controls were incredibly stiff and sometimes hard to navigate.

It is just a simple point and click type game where most of the things you clicked on were pointless and just there to eat up more time.

The story was very well done.


So basically it wins GOTY for a good story? The Spike awards just keep getting worse every year. I still do not understand why Borderlands 2 was not a choice for GOTY. I bet if it was, that would have received more votes.

I've only played the first 2 episodes, but the presentation was good in Walking Dead. However it wasn't that unique, it was pretty much similar to the other telltale games and point-and-click adventure games in general. Granted it was a good one, but still rather simple.

Journey was fantastic too though, would probably have liked that winning a bit more, but the walking dead was also just fantastic so not complaining.

I guess it was this or more standard games like Assassins Creed 3 and Black Ops 2. Bleh. I'm not really impressed with most standardized mainstream games anymore, so in that regard I can sorta agree with this getting GoTY in a vote. At the same time the game in and of itself still seems undeserving of the title; being more original in your gameplay and story direction does not alone entitle you.

To be honest this year was a slump for gamers. 2011 blew this year away, and 2013 is looking really hot in comparison to 2012. It's crappy. Regardless, I think games like Planetside 2 or Dishonored deserve the GoTY more.

EDIT: People don't seem to get it, this game more than any this year gave players an emotional investment and I know for sure the story is going to stay with me for years after I've forgotten that I ever played any Call of Duty game. That is the main reason why this game won. It is about the experience and what it leaves the player thinking after the credits have rolled.

If all you can think is "ZOMG THE GRAPHICZ WERE ASUM!"..then the game must be pretty shit tbh.

My goty is TTT2. Its sad when a fighting game is my goty, despite it being Tekken and have played every iteration religiously. Its the only game I've played where have I haven't gone, "You know... this would be better if..."
