There's nothing wrong with that, not everyone is up-to-date with the gaming industry. It's like buying movies on a whim, the box art and title is the first thing that catches your eye.

I'm glad they didn't push Ellie to the back. The usual depressed 30-some rugged bachelor, single soldier or group of them standing idly with faces obscured on the cover of boxart designs are a dime a dozen.

The box art may not be important to people like us who read up about the latest games online but to those who don't it's a big deal. Look at Bioshock Infinite, that box art makes the game look like a generic FPS with a dudebro protagonist.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Thinking further on it, I think ND made the right choice. It may be less dudebro this way, but there is enough appeal to the cover that makes it work for general audiences and in the long term, people will be getting the game for how good it is anyway. This is also one step towards giving the gaming medium more credibility and when that happens, audiences will be more balanced. But it starts with bold choices like what ND is doing.

lol at ghost. But yea this is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. 2012 has been crazy for the games industry.

-Even more developers being closed
-Mass Effect fans acting like babies over an ending causing developer to make an alternate
-PSVita's memory card prices
-Dragon's Dogma turning out to be good
-RE6 sucks
-PS Allstars lack of certain main characters

The box art actually symbolizes their relationship, Ellie seems to be the focus of the game since she's the one that's being protected and trying to make her way out of the chaos

With how serious Naughty Dog's been treating this game I imagine the cover has some artistic meaning to it. Noel is at the forefront, and Ellie lingers behind him. As others were pointing out in the VGA trailer thread, it looks like Noel's going to be put down. Whether or not that's true, it seems definite that the game will end with us controlling Ellie, similar to the old switch-a-roo we saw in Read Dead Redemption. Ellie is a major aspect of the story, and probably the final chapters of the game. It would be silly to remove her. Then there's taking into account that both characters are prevalent throughout the duration of the actual playing of the game.

Monkey and Trip were both on the cover of Enslaved.

Tepehu and Majin were on the cover of Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom.

Ico and that one chick were on the (non-shitty vomit-inducing American version) cover of Ico.

It only makes sense. Regardless, I'm cancelling my pre-order, slitting my wrists, and leaving the country.
